n!
Combinatorial coefficient nCr = (n−r)r! ,
r is the number of identical items to be located in n different places,
where n ≥ r
n!
The number of different combinations is (n−r)!r!
Three properties:
1) nCn =n C0 = 1,
2) nCn−r =n Cr
3) nCr +nCr+1 =n+1 Cr+1
→ Pascals triangle is a triangular array of combinatorial coefficients.

Binomials can be expanded using Pascal’s triangle & combinatorial

coefficients:
1.A row in a Pascal’s triangle contains the coefficients of the binomial
expansion of (a + b)n ,
2. An alternative form of the binomial expansion of (a + b)n is given in
terms of combinatorial coefficients as,
(a + b)n =n C0 an b0 +nC1 an−1 b1 +nC2 an−2 b2 + ... +nCn an−n bn
n(n − 1) n−2 2 n(n − 1)(n − 2) n−3 3
= an + nan−1 b + a b + a b + ... + bn
2! 3!
n
= ∑ nCr an−r br .

Check out the binomial expansion of 1 + n1 to give e. Given in
