Is your child getting bored of watching the same old buildings, roads, and people? Next time while you
are on road with them, ask them to look up! Let them find all the objects that they can be up in the sky.
Ask them questions like "Is the object moving?" and encourage them to describe them.
3. What's Up There?
Make folded chits for the following words: sun, moon, stars, meteor, plane, bird, bat, cloud. At meal-
time, play a game with your child. One of you can pick a chit. The other can ask 5 questions about it
that can be answered with 'yes' or 'no'. Once they guess the word, switch roles to play again!

2. We Move Together!
Draw an analog clock on the floor. Let your child and their friend take the roles of minute and hour hands.
When you give them a time, they are expected to move accordingly.
3. Cuckoo-Cuckoo!
Let your child play a cuckoo clock for a day. From the time they wake up to the time they go to bed.
They could make a loud bird call at the strike of every hour. E.g. 12 chirps when it's 12.00 noon.

2. Toy Time!
Turn off the lights and turn on a torch. Gather your child's favorite toys and place them in front of the
torch to create a shadow on the wall. Ask them to imagine the torch as the Sun and observe what
happens if you move the torch or the toy, or use multiple toys.
3. Human Sundial
Find an open sunny spot outside for your child to stand on. Trace their shadow at different times of
the day using chalk. Ask them to describe their shadow each time. Does it get longer or shorter?
Bigger or smaller? You can also use another object as the sundial and let your child do the tracing.

Fun Activity: Duration
1. Traffic Signals!
During commute, ask your child to note the time it took to travel from one traffic signal to another. Let
them also note the time it took for the red light to turn green at each traffic signal.They could even
read the red light timer in both minutes and seconds.Go over their observations with them.
2. Stack 'Em!
Mark different-colored building blocks as 10 seconds, 10 minutes, and 1 hour. Assign one color to each
category. Let your child and their friends stack the blocks to make up seconds, minutes and hours. E.g. 6
blocks marked as 10 seconds make up a minute.
3. Record Time!
Ask your child to note the time they took to do various chores like setting the table, folding laundry,
and so on. Ask them to record their time for 7 days in a binder. After 7 days, ask them to go through
the binder and point out the days where they took the most or least time to complete a chore.

2. Heat Proofing!
Have your child fill two bowls with water. Ask them to place one bowl in the shade and the other under
the Sun. Help them note the temperatures after a few hours. Which bowl is hotter? Discuss how they feel
when they're under the sun/shade and how they can protect themselves from the heat.
3. Heat at Bay
Next time when you visit a supermarket with your child, ask them to pick out five items that can help
them beat the heat of the Sun. It can be anything from water bottles to umbrellas. Ask them how
these items can help protect them from the Sun.

Cut out rectangular pieces of paper. Write down 1 rupee, 2 rupees, 3 rupees, 4 rupees, and 5 rupees on
them. Set up a pretend shop consisting of various items. Ask your child to become the customer and pay
for the items they want to buy using the correct rupee notes.
3. Coin Towers
Gather many 1 rupee, 2 rupees, 5 rupees, and 10 rupees coins. Ask your child to stack coins of the same
value in different towers. Encourage them to add up and find the value of each tower. They could also
multiply—it's the same as repeated addition!

Fun Activity: Earth Spins About an Axis
1. Light It Up!
Turn off the lights and darken the room before you tuck your child into bed. Use a globe or a ball to
represent the Earth and mark the location you live in. Use a flashlight as the Sun and shine it on the
globe. Gently rotate the globe. Ask them how this might be related to day and night on Earth.
2. Revolutions Ago!
Revisit old pictures of your child and their friend. Play a guessing game and ask them if they can tell how
many years ago a picture was taken. But, it should be said in terms of revolutions of the Earth. So if a
picture was taken a year ago, they can say that it was taken one revolution ago!
3. Places You'll Go
Your child is on their way with a globe in hand! Encourage them to ask the people around them which
country on the globe they have visited or would like to visit. Can they tell if it’s day or night in that
country?

Fun Activity: Currency operations
1. Save Some Money
Get your child a piggy bank. Ask them to put some money in it everyday for a week. On the last day of
the week, take all the money out and have them add it up. Then, borrow one coin or note from them. Ask
them to find out how much is left by subtracting the value of that coin or note.
2. Coin Addition!
Make pretend coins with paper. Place the coins in columns and help your child to perform column
addition. Give them different numbers to add and encourage them to use the coins to verify their
answers.
3. Bills, Bills!
While at the supermarket with your child, pick 2-3 items of different categories such as fruits, snacks,
grains, etc. that have a small price value, like ₹20, ₹50. Ask them to add the price items each category.
E.g. The total price of all fruits is ₹250.

Splashing in cold bathwater is great fun during summers but rather chilly in winters. While bathing
your child, ask them if they’ve noticed this. Do they know the reason? It happens because the intensity
of sunlight varies for each season, making summer the hottest and winter the coldest.

Help your child make a Moon calendar! Create an outline of a monthly calendar. Observe the phase of the
Moon in the night and encourage them to draw the phase in that particular date’s column. Discuss and
predict the upcoming phases based on this to complete the "Moon Calendar" for the month!
3. Landscape Art
Recreate the landscapes of the Earth and Moon with your child on the ground. One can create the Earth’s
landscape by adding plants and making little pools of water. The other can make the Moon’s landscape
with rocks and by digging up small pits as craters. Let them find the differences between both.

Fun Activity: Starstruck
1. Stargazing
Camp outside on a clear, starry night. Look at how the stars twinkle and adorn the sky. Ask your child to
tell you all they know about stars! Do they know that although stars appear to be close and tiny, they are
actually far and large in size?
2. Create Constellations
Let your child invite their friends over. Ask them to make constellations on the walls with "glow in the
dark star stickers." They can use pictures of well-known constellations for reference. To make it simpler,
you could just ask them to draw or paint the different constellations.
3. You're a Star!
Take your child's help and create "You're A Star" badges depicting each stage of a star's life cycle:
Nebula, Protostar, Main Sequence Star, Red Giant, White Dwarf. Make a point system for each of the
stars. For example, one chore well done deserves a Nebula Star; two tasks gets them a Protostar.
