Primary function of the role:


Reporting to the Water Operations Engineer the Trade Waste Officer, plays a key role in the
implementation of Council’s liquid trade waste (LTW) policy. The occupant of this position will:
• provide a high level of customer service to customers regarding commercial liquid
waste within Council’s sewerage infrastructure. This may also include
discharge to onsite sewage management systems
• be responsible for the maintenance of the LTW database and associated tasks
correlating to the maintenance, such as compliance inspections
• assist with and deliver customer/community education relevant to the above as
controlled and regulated through the Local Government
• actively communicate with property operators and/ or business owners to process
applications, apply conditions, issue approvals and undertake inspections of LTW in
accordance with relevant legislation
• aid in providing backflow prevention compliance and undertake Trade Waste sampling
including collection, labelling, transportation, interpretation of analysis results and
follow up action (if necessary).

requirements under the NSW Safe Work, Health & Safety legislation and Council's relevant
safe work instructions, policies and procedures. Ensure that Workplace Health and Safety is

safeguard the health and safety of all staff and members of the general public. Follow safe
practices/procedures to perform your duties in a manner so as not to put yourself or others at
risk of harm, and immediately report any hazards, incidents and accidents to the relevant
supervisor and take appropriate action. Furthermore, the occupant will actively participate in a
delivering a positive WHS culture, including having a proactive involvement in reviewing safe
systems of work compliance and the implementation of continuous improvements in health
and safety.

Immunisation:
This position is identified as a position whereby the occupant has current immunisation against
Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B viruses or a willingness to participate in an immunisation program.

The Liquid Trade Waste Officer:


• Implement and monitor safety management systems for Liquid Trade Waste
• Engages, consults, and influences a diverse range of people and business operators to
effectively manage expectations
• Ensures the delivery of liquid trade waste services and systems that are compliant, identifies
and manage risks
• Analyses statistical data, undertake complex calculation and analysis of information and
compile detailed reports
• Provides clear technical recommendations for facilitate decision-making relating to granting

approval, monitoring, pricing and enforcement

Essential
- A minimum Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations -Liquid Trade Waste or equivalent, or
willingness and ability to complete such training
- Working knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Office, tablets and
telephones
- Current Class C driver’s licence
- General Construction Induction training card (white card)
- Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

Experience, skills and knowledge

- Proven knowledge of the water industry and regulatory framework impacting on trade waste
activities-.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, to work in a self-directed manner (autonomously), and to

programs and workloads to meet agreed service standards and deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and negotiations that require high level
