CGS MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM

The 2022 Graduate Research Forum of the College of Graduate Studies is an opportunity
for graduate students to showcase their research endeavors to the campus community. This
special event will be held at the CGS Multi-Purpose Room on May 11, 2022 at 8:30am.
There are 3 categories where student-participants can vie. These include:

BEST ACADEMIC RESEARCH (Thesis or Dissertation)


BEST ORAL PRESENTER (Masteral and Doctoral Levels)
BEST POSTER PRESENTER (Masteral and Doctoral Levels)

Competition

The Graduate School will host this awards competition. Participating graduate students will
demonstrate their engagement in high-quality research or creative activity. The competition will
provide students whose research is deemed outstanding and innovative with an opportunity to
be evaluated by a host of judges. Winners will receive academic medals and certificates of
recognition. The academic medals will be awarded during the Graduation Ceremonies.

Eligibility

Graduates of SY 2019-2020 and 2020-21 and prospective graduates of SY 2021-2022 are


eligible to join the Research Forum. Candidates to the ORAL and POSTER Presentations must be
endorsed by their respective Program Chairs and duly noted by the Dean of the College.

Oral Presentation
1. Students-candidates will submit 3 copies of their manuscript on or before May 4, 2022. It
must have a cover page, abstract page (remove name of adviser), table of contents,
Chapters 1-4 only.
2. Presentation shall be in Power Point and must be submitted on or before May 10, 2022.
The PowerPoint presentation should not exceed 10 slides, excluding the slide bearing the
dissertation/thesis title. Back-up slides bearing data may be prepared as the panelists
may require additional information on the study during the open forum. Only 1 laptop
will be used for all the presentations.
3. Student-candidates will be given 10 minutes to present their studies. A signal will be
flashed by the faculty moderator after 5 and 8 minutes’ presentation and a warning sign
will be given indicating 1-minute left. A buzzer will be rung at the end of the time alloted.
4. After the presentation of each participant, a 10-minute moderated open forum follows
to allow time for clarifications from the panel members. Each judge is given/allowed to
ask one (1) question each. A follow-up question may be allowed, provided there is still
time for such.

5. If time allows, one (1) question from the audience may be allowed by the Chairman of
the Board of Judges.
6. Decision of the board of judges is final. After announcement of the results, protests or
appeal is no longer entertained.

Poster Presentation
1. Student-candidates for Poster Presentation shall submit their entries on or before May 4,
2022. All entries must be printed in 2.5’x4’ (portrait) tarpaulin.
2. A 5 inches’ allowance below the poster will be allotted for the research abstract, name
and program of the researcher.
3. The title of the research will be placed strategically within the poster. The material
presented on the poster should convey the essence of the research message.
4. Strictly, no words shall be written in the poster except when graphs/tables may be
included in the poster (part of the visual) however minimal use. The poster should be
able to stand alone as a clear communication of the research.
5. Student-candidates will provide information or clarification only if asked by the panel of
judges.
6. Decision of the board of judges is final. After announcement of the results, protests or
appeal is no longer entertained.

 Appropriateness of the use of presentation:
Materials (tables/charts, etc).
 Relevance of study to national regional
development.
 Appropriateness of statistical treatment.
 Soundness and depth of interpretation of findings.
 Relevance of conclusions and recommendations
to the problem.
