CONTEST
Mechanics and Guidelines

Student Category
An undergraduate thesis on health or
health-related fields conducted within the
last 1 year but not featured in the previous
PNHRS fora.
A health research project conducted by a
member or non-member institution of
BCHRD.
The competitor must be a principal or co-
investigator of the completed health
research project.
Professional Category
A health research project completed
within the last 2 years but not featured in
the previous PNHRS fora.
A health research paper authored by a
researcher from the BCHRD member
institutions and/or funded by the PNHRS
core agencies (DOST- PCHRD, DOH, CHED,
and UP Manila) and/or other local and
international funding institutions.
The competitor must be a principal or co-
investigator of the project.
Submission Requirements
1. Electronic copy of the completed research paper in publishable form

2. An institution may submit multiple entries as long as they are endorsed by the
institution head.

3. Applicable research authorization/clearance/permit:


a. Ethics clearance (from Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB)
Accredited Research Ethics Committee)
b. National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) Free and Prior Informed
Consent
c. Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Animal Research Permit
d. Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) Gratuitous Permit
e. Biosafety clearance
Screening Process
1. BCHRD Secretariat will conduct an initial review of submitted entries to check the
eligibility and completeness of the required documents.

2. After initial review, the entries will be forwarded for evaluation to the BCHRD
contest committee, which will be composed of content and methodology experts.

3. Only the TOP 5 pre-selected poster entries per category will advance to the
contest proper
Determination of Top 5 winners
Technical experts on the research field/area of the selected entries per
category will be invited by BCHRD to evaluate and rate the technical
soundness of the finalists’ entries. This will be done prior to the contest
proper.

On the other hand, 3 judges per category will be invited by BCHRD to


evaluate and rate the actual presentation of the finalists’ research papers.

The winners will be determined based on their scores in both the technical
(50%) and presentation criteria (50%).
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Finalists are required to submit the following documents:

01 Short introduction for the finalist (3-5 sentences only);

02 High resolution photo of finalist; and

03 Copy of slide deck

Content should include:

01 Introduction, objectives, methodology, results,


discussion, conclusion/recommendations

02 Limit to 15-20 slides only

03 White background only, no slide transitions, animations


or ‘movement’ of any description

04 Font style: Arial, size 30, black


Rules and Mechanics for Presentation
1. The submitted slide deck to the BCHRD secretariat is final and will be presented to the
contest proper. Slides must be limited to 15-20 slides only, and must not have any slide
transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any description.

2. No additional electronic media (e.g., sound and video files) are permitted. No
additional props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are
permitted.

3. The principal investigator or the one endorsed by the institution must be the
presenter during the contest proper.

4. Presentations are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes. Competitors exceeding 15


minutes will have deductions on their final scores (1-point deduction for every exceeding
minute).

5. Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their
presentation through speech.

6. Finalists are expected to wear business attire during the event.

7. The researcher should refrain from mentioning and/or acknowledging information, which
would reveal the identity of the institution he/she represents.

8. There will be a 10-minute question and answer session after each presentation.

9. After all the presentations, an en-banc discussion with the board of judges will be
conducted to determine the top three 3 winners.

10. The decision of the board of judges is final.
