Comprehension 35%
Did the presentation provide an understanding of the background and 15%
significance to the research question being addressed, while explaining
terminology and avoiding jargon?
Did the presentation clearly describe the impact and/or results of the research, 10%
including conclusions and outcomes?
Did the presentation follow a clear and logical sequence? 10%
Communication Style 35%
Were the topic, research significance, results/impact and outcomes 10%
communicated in language appropriate to an intelligent non-specialist
audience?
Did the speaker avoid scientific jargon, explain terminology and provide 10%
adequate background information to illustrate points?
Did the speaker have sufficient stage presence, eye contact and vocal range; 5%
maintain a steady pace, and have a confident stance?
Did the presenter spend adequate time on each element of their presentation - 5%
or did they elaborate for too long on one aspect or was the presentation
rushed?
Did the PowerPoint slide enhance the presentation - was it clear, legible, 5%
and concise?
Engagement 30%
Did the presentation make the audience want to know more (based on 15%
judges’ perception)?
Was the presenter careful not to trivialize or generalize their research? 10%
Did the presenter convey enthusiasm for their research? 5%
