Welcome to the Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions 12 Project CAP-LRE
Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Contemporary Arts based on Techniques and
Performance Practices in their locality.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both from
public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

can come up with special artworks making use of the most available local materials found in
their particular localities.
Arts express the artistic feelings toward any aspect of life. The local materials that are
available in the locality help us hone and enhance our skills and talents in producing works of
arts that can give us pride and popularity.

This means that activities are written from a simple to complex manner to help the
learners gradually learn the learning competency. However self-paced the module is,
you are encouraged to give your student the needed support and guidance in
understanding the functions of different tools and materials used in embroidery and
realizing that properly handling them is important.

What is It

You are now ready to study the Techniques and Performance Practices. Before
proceeding to this part, be reminded that you may go back to the previous activity to help you
deal with the next exercises. Familiarize yourself with the descriptions given on each
techniques and practices as well as the common materials needed in creating such.

COLLAGE
It is made by adhering flat elements such as newspapers or magazine cut-outs, printed
text, illustrations, photographs, cloth, string, etc. It is sometimes called RELIEF
SCULPTURE

GRAFFITI
It refers to writings or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or painted illicitly on a
wall or other surface, often in a public space. Graffiti range from simple written words to
elaborate wall paintings.

DIGITAL ARTS
An artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative
or presentation process. Digital arts is placed under the larger umbrella termed new media
art.

MIXED MEDIA
In visual art, it refers to artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been
employed. It refers to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual
art media. For example, work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage.

DECOLLAGE
This is the opposite of collage; instead of an image is being built up all or parts of existing
images, are created by cutting, treating away or otherwise removing pieces of an original
image. The French word “Decollage” in English means “Take – Off” or “To be come
Unglued” or “To become unstuck”.

PRINT MAKING
It is the process of making artworks by painting, normally in the paper. Prints are created
by transforming ink from a matrix or through a prepared screen to a sheet of paper or other
material. Common types of matrices include; metal plates, usually copper and zinc, or
polymer plates for engraving or etching; stone aluminum or polymer for lithography; blocks
of wood for wood crafts and wood engravings; and linoleum for linocuts. Screens made of
silk or synthetic fabrics are used for the screen printing process.

FROTTAGE
It is the technique of rubbing with crayon on a piece of paper which has been placed over
an object or an image.

DECALCOMANIA
It is the process of applying gouche to paper or glass then transferring a reversal of that
image into canvass or other flat materials.
Gouche is a technique in painting that use opaque watercolor.

DECOUPAGE
It is done by adhering cut-outs of paper and then coating these with one or more coats or
transparent coating of varnish.

LAND ARTS
Earthworks or earth arts is an art movement in which landscape and the work of art are
inextricably linked. It is also an art form that is created in nature, using natural materials
such as soil, rock (bed rock, boulders, stones), organic media (logs, branches, leaves), and
water which introduced materials such as concrete, metal, asphalt, or mineral pigments.

SKILL
The ability to do something well that comes from knowledge, practice and aptitude. It is
acquired through training and/or experience.
TECHNIQUE
It is a way of carrying out a particular task, especially the execution or performance of an
artistic work or a scientific procedure.
PRODUCTION
It is the action of making or manufacturing from components or raw materials, or the process
of being so manufactured.

Traditional and few modern techniques are used by our contemporary artists today. They
carefully choose the materials and techniques to create any artwork of their interest. There
are ten techniques which were discussed to help learners understand the importance of
choosing the right materials and techniques in conveying messages through the artworks.
The artist’s feelings, emotions, and ideas are conveyed in the artworks that they produced.
