EFFICACY OF

SODIUM
BICARBONATE
ON REMOVING RUST

2022 October 10 Group 4 RDL 2

We will use Experimental Research Design. Experimental
RESEARCH research allows cause and effect to be determined. In our
DESIGN case, we will study, how we can use baking soda to remove
rust. We need to conduct an experiment to determine
which solution is the most effective with sodium
bicarbonate, in order for it to remove rust.

RESEARCH VARIABLES
Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda)
Our main study, is finding out how we can use sodium
bicarbonate to remove rust from metals. We need to try
all ways possible to make it work. In some experiments,
we will use other solvents to our solution (e.g. water,
vinegar).

Rust
When acidic substances (including water) come in contact
with metals, such as iron and/or steel, rust begins to form.
Rust is the result of corroding steel after the iron (Fe) particles
have been exposed to oxygen and moisture (e.g., humidity,
vapor, immersion).

RELEVANCE
OF OUR
STUDY
How can we use baking soda
to remove rust?
How about we mix it with
other solvent to make it more
effective?
What is the most effective way
to remove rust using baking
soda?
