MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang has described as “misguided” notions that booster shots are no
longer necessary because of the declining COVID-19 case rates in the country.
Acting presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles said only about 29% of the 33.5 million persons who
are qualified to receive booster shots have availed of their third jab as of February 20.
“Perhaps most of them are thinking; ‘Why do we need this?’ The number of COVID-19 cases in the
country is going down. There is very little risk of getting COVID today.’ Not true,” Nograles said at a
press briefing last Tuesday.
“This view is misguide. We still need additional protection. It is better to be safe than sorry,” he added.
Nograles said it is worrisome that 23 million people in the country have yet to be given their boosters.
The health department has recommended the getting of boosters at least three months after the
second shot of a primary two-dose vaccine or at least two months after the primary single-dose jab is
given. According to recent studies, the efficacy of primary doses wanes after six to eight months,
hence the need for booster shots.
Nograles assured the public that the COVID-19 vaccines being administered are safe and effective.
“Ito ay ating panlaban, hindi kalaban. Pansagip ng buhay, pambangon ng kabuhayan,” he added
As of February 21, about 62.65 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while
9.78 million others have received their booster shots.
The government aims to fully vaccinate 90 million people before the end of June and to provide 72.16
million booster shots to the adult population within the year.

Presidential candidate Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson said Wednesday the investigation on the use of
state-owned helicopter by Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos should not be
preempted.

The H125 Airbus helicopter that was supposed to fetch Carlos from private resort island Balesin
crashed in Quezon on Monday, leaving 1 dead and 2 hurt.

Lacson made the remark as he said that he never used PNP resources when he was the country’s'
top cop.

"Sinabi na nila investigation is underway. Dapat huwag ipreempt. Simple lang naman 'yun e. Official
function ba ang pagpunta o pag-ferry sa kaniya o pag-pick up sa kaniya ng helicopter?" he said.

"Kung official function, walang problema 'yun. Pero kung personal, sa kaniyang personal, pribadong
sabihin nating situation, meron talagang mali. Ako nag-Chief PNP ako, I never used PNP resources

Actress and vlogger Alex Gonzaga said her sister Toni is equipped to handle all the bashing she has
been receiving during the 2022 election season.

"Knowing my sister, I know she’s a strong person. And I know hindi siya dadalhin ni Lord doon nang
hindi siya ready. So, my sister was bashed even before nung bata pa. She was bullied pre-school pa
lang as in hanggang sa pag-aartista niya," Alex said in Karen Davila's vlog.

"During that time, I think she was so equipped and so ready for that and I think that the Lord will not
give that to me because I think my sister is stronger, more independent," she added.

The older Gonzaga left her lead hosting gig for “Pinoy Big Brother” amid the controversy surrounding
her apparent support for lawmaker, Rodante Marcoleta, who pushed for her home network ABS-
CBN’s broadcast shutdown.

Hosting the Marcos-Duterte proclamation rally on Tuesday, Gonzaga gave a hearty introduction to
Marcoleta, who is seeking a Senate seat in the May elections.
