A. Pipe Laying
1. The type, class and size of pipe used shall be as shown on the Drawings. The pipe shall
be laid and maintained to the required line and grade with the necessary fittings, bends,
manholes and other appurtenances placed at the required locations. Installation shall
commence at the lowest point for each segment of the route.
2. The pipe shall be inspected for defects and cracks before being carefully lowered into the
trench, piece by piece. Any defective, damaged or unsound pipe or any pipe that has had
its grade disturbed after laying shall be taken up and replaced. Open ends shall be
protected with a stopper to prevent earth or other materials from entering the pipe during
construction. The interior of the pipe shall be free from dirt, excess water and other foreign
materials as the pipe laying progresses, and left clean at the completion of the installation.
3. Riveted CSP shall be placed with the inside circumferential laps pointing downstream.
Damaged bituminous coating on CSP shall be repaired by applying bituminous material
conforming to AASHTO M190 (TYPE ‘D’).
No pipe shall be laid in water or when trench conditions are unsuitable for such work.
C. Joints
1. Joints shall be constructed as described herein with the intent that they be made
watertight.
2. HDPE pipe joints to be butt fusion joints, to ASTM D2657 unless otherwise specified on
Drawings.
3. CSP shall be joined by standard corrugated connecting bands. Care shall be used to keep
dirt or gravel out from between the pipe and band so that corrugations fit snugly. While
being tightened, the band shall be tapped with a mallet to take up slack and insure a tight
joint.
4. C-HDPE shall be connected using wrap-around band or snap-on couplings.
A. Pipe Openings
Openings Pipe shall be aligned to that of the pipe entering and leaving the manhole. Pipe shall

Frames and covers shall be set to the proper elevation. The frames shall be installed in
accordance with the Drawings.
D. Concrete Cradles
Concrete cradles shall be constructed as shown on the Drawings and as needed when crossing
over and under other sewer pipe or utility lines.
Manholes and catch basins shall be internally lined with high density polyethylene sheeting or
equivalent approved material as indicated on the Drawings.
A. General
Storm sewer systems and culverts, upon completion or at such time as directed, shall be
cleaned, inspected and tested. The storm sewer or culvert shall have a true grade and line.
Actual elevations shall be within 2 mm of the elevations given on the Drawings.
B. Cleaning
1. Remove foreign material from storm sewers and related appurtenances by flushing with
water or with mechanical equipment. Clear debris flushed from the lines at the nearest
manhole or point of interception. Flushing rates to be sufficient to clean storm sewers of
visible debris or as accepted by the Construction Manager.
2. To ensure all sections of the storm sewer system flow freely each segment is to be
flushed. All flushing is to be performed in the presence of the Construction Manager or his
designate.
C. Exfiltration Test
1. Pipes and joints shall not be completely backfilled until after inspection, testing, and
approval by the Construction Manager.
2. Prior to testing for leakage, the pipe trench shall be backfilled to at least the spring line of
the pipe. If required to prevent pipe movement during testing, additional backfill shall be
added leaving the pipe joints uncovered to permit inspection.
3. Exfiltration Test
a. Fill test section with water in such a manner as to allow displacement of air in line.
Maintain under nominal head for 24 hours to ensure absorption in pipe and
appurtenance walls is complete before test measurements are commenced.
b. Immediately prior to test period add water to pipeline until there is a head of 1 m over
interior crown of pipe measured at highest point of test section or water in manhole is
1 m above static ground water level, whichever is greater, but the maximum head in
any part of the system under test shall not be greater than 7.6 m.
c. Duration of exfiltration test to be two hours.
d. Water loss at end of test period not to exceed maximum allowable exfiltration over
any section of pipe between manholes.
FLUOR
Mining & Minerals
4. There shall be no allowable exfiltration from the test section unless otherwise stated by the
Construction Manager.
5. Repair and retest sewer line as required until test results are within limits specified.
6. Repair visible leaks regardless of test results.
7. Provide measuring devices, meters, water, materials, and labor for making the required
tests.
8. Tests shall be conducted in the presence of the Construction Manager or his designate.
Test data shall be submitted to the Construction Manager for review and approval.
D. Alignment Test
After backfill has been placed and compacted to a depth not less than 300 mm above top of
pipe, a visual inspection shall be made by flashing a light between manholes. Any displacement
or misalignment of invert shall be corrected. This test shall be conducted in the presence of the
Construction Manager or his designate.

3. Prueba de Exfiltración
4. ANEXOS
No aplicable.
