1.0 SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the sequential approach involved in Chilled Water

System Pumps installation & testing in accordance with the contract requirements. This method statement

shall ensure that the Chilled Water pumps installation & testing is executed safely. This method statement

aims to ensure that quality assurance and quality control activities are adopted by Contractor in a

systematic manner accordance with project requirements.

The Contractor reserves the right to adapt the methods of execution as contained in this document from

time to time, according to specific site conditions, in agreement with the Engineer.

The Scope of Works includes the installation & testing of Chilled Water system piping work with all

accessories on C-108-01 project.

The Contractor will be executing all the above ground CHW pipework inside the Chiller yards. It will also be

executing underground CHW pipework between the chiller yard to buildings.

4.3 MATERIALS

6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 PROJECT MANAGER


The Project Manager Leads and Directs the team for overall development of the Project.
Also, he provides single point of contact in dealing with Employer resolving Contractual, Commercial and
Technical issues during the progress of the project.

6.2 SENIOR ENGINEER


It is the Senior Engineer responsibility to ensure that Quality Management System requirements are fulfilled
and strictly implemented. Moreover, to ensure that the works are carried out in accordance with this method
statement.

6.3 QA-QC ENGINEER


It is the QA/QC Engineer responsibility to ensure that all plant & equipment being calibrated. Ensure that all
Inspections and Tests are carried out as per Project Requirements, Shop drawings, Approved method
statement and Inspection Test Plan and that all are properly recorded. Also responsible for maintaining all
Quality Documents and Records relevant to verification throughout the project cycle. Prior to commencement
of works toolbox talk/training shall be carried out for site team and deployed labors.

6.4 SITE ENGINEER I SITE SUPERVISOR


It is the Site Engineer I Site Supervisor's duty to organize the work force in a safe manner and to ensure that
safety and protective equipment are being properly utilized. He also ensures that the method statement
procedure is strictly followed and observes any hold-points noted on the ITP and notify the Engineer for
inspection.

6.5 SAFETY ENGINEER I OFFICER


• Enforce the implementation of the HSE Management System in the project and support the relevant
construction Supervisors on all HSE matters;
• Ensure that relevant HSE information and training is provided to all personnel working in the assigned
area;
• Collaborate with Supervisors in assessing training needs for personnel in the assigned area;
• Attend all relevant meetings.
• Reports HSE findings to the relevant construction personnel as well as the HSE MANAGER, and follow up
the status of implementation of the identified preventive and corrective actions; Carry out any other
assigned HSE activity

7.0PROCEDURE

7.1 EXECUTION SEQUENCE

The sequence of construction works are as follows;

• Shop drawing preparation & coordination


• Obtaining necessary permits
• Inspection of material deliveries
• Installation of Chilled Water Pipe, Fittings, Valves and Accessories

7.2 SHOP DRAWINGS PREPARATION AND COORDINATION


Submittal of shop drawings will be done after all necessary coordination is incorporated. Approved
shop drawings will be provided to site engineer for execution. Working with sketches, part plans of
drawings or any other drawings will not be permitted. Approved shop drawings will be available in
working place during full execution period.

• A close coordination with the Main Contractor's (Electrical I Mechanical I Civil I Architectural
I Structural) engineers shall take place at all the stages of the work, as early from Shop
Drawing preparation, coordination, installation, and system test.
• All the system shop drawings must be reviewed and verified by each discipline engineers to
verify all the requirement are covered.

7. 3 PRE-INSTALI..ATION CHECKS
• Ensure that all safety requirements are in place in accordance with project safety plan .
• Ensure that the latest revision of the approved shop drawing and coordination drawing is
used.
• All materials will be ordered after approval of the drawings and technical submittals.
• All material will be transported to the site by the supplier and care shall be taken by the store
keeper to ensure that all the materials are not damaged during transit.
• Special care shall be taken by the storekeeper to protect the chilled water pumps and
Accessories from physical damage.

• On receipt of the material at site, QA/QC Engineer/Site Engineer shall inspect the material
internally and inspection shall be offered to the Engineer for approval in MIR (Material
Inspection Request) form. Any non-conforming materials must be labeled by storekeeper
and returned to quarantine area in accordance with procedure. An internal NCR will be
issued.
• Ensure all the material used, have passed receiving inspection in accordance with QA
procedures and are not damaged or defective.
• Ensure that all installers and helpers are aware of the correct materials handling and
installation procedures to ensure best quality of workmanship.
• Training shall be provided by site engineers/supervisors as and when required.
• All Chilled Water Pumps and Accessories shall be cleaned before installation.
• Main contractor to ensure that prior to installation of Chilled Water Pumps and Accessories,
all building surfaces to which Chilled Water Pumps and Accessories are being installed must
be completed to acceptable tolerance and are in a suitably clean and dry condition.
• Access Ladders and scaffoldings during construction will be used at site as per the safety
plan.
• Prior to start the work, HVAC engineers/supervisors from the execution team shall ensure
that the latest approved construction drawings are available at site.
• Installation of Chilled Water Pumps, Fittings, Valves and Accessories shall be coordinated
with architectural, structural, and MEP works. Any deviation shall be intimated to the
engineer for approval prior to start of the work.
• Supervisor shall ensure equipment and correct tools are available for installation and to
achieve compliance with the contract requirements.

7.4 PERMITS
General Cold work permit shall be obtained before executing any critical hazardous work.
Hot Work Permits shall be obtained from concern department before any grinding and
cutting works start up.

7.5 INSPECTION OF MATERIAL DELIVERIES

Site Engineer and QA/QC Engineer shall;

• Check the quantities and types with purchase order


• Check quality of delivered material
• Prepare a report and mention if there are incomplete or damaged items and keep such material
separately to invite responsible person from supplier.
• Invite Engineer for inspection before execution.

NOTE: All materials shall confirm to the approved material submittals, and the
Engineer comments on the same (if any), as per the approved model, type, size,
rating ... etc.

7.61NSTALLATION OF CHILLED WATER PUMPS

7.6.1. GENERAL

• Check all material delivered to site is inspected properly by QA/QC Engineer and check if it is stored
properly as per manufacturer's recommendations.
• Material Inspection Request shall be raised for the inspection of materials received at site to be
submitted to the Engineer for approval.
• Work shall be carried out by the site staff under strict supervision and guidance of the concerned
Supervisors I Foremen I Engineers.
• Inspection request shall be prepared by QAIQC Engineer and will be submitted to the Engineer for
their inspection and approval by coordinating with other contractors and arrange inspection for the
finished work.

7.6.2. HANDLING and STORAGE

• On receipt of the materials at site necessary precautions shall be taken for unloading, shifting and
storage, as follows:
• Material shall be stored in a covered I dry space at all the time to avoid being damaged.
• All materials received at site shall be inspected and ensured that the materials are as per approved
material submittal.
• Any discrepancies, damage etc., found will be notified and reported for further action.
• Material found not suitable for site use will be removed from site immediately.

7.6.3. INSTALLATION OF CHILLED WATER PUMPS

• If the site is ready for installation, the setting out activity based on the approved shop drawing will be
carried out.

• Keep the Inertia Base Frame on plain, even surface on a poly sheet making sure that the
reinforcement bars are on lower side.
• Locate the anchor bolts in the bolting template provided with the base frame if provided.
• After anchor bolt have been located check to ensure they match equipment bolting pattern. Then
pour the concrete and let it cure.
• After concrete has cured lift up the base high enough to place the mount block. Do not lift the entire
weight of the base on one bracket.
• Install Vibration isolators as per approved material submittal.

• The isolators can now be adjusted in sequence by turning the levelling bolts to compress spring I raise
base till base just comes free from shims I blocks. The shims I blocks may be removed.
• Shift the chilled water pumps to the place of installation in safe manner as per approved shop
drawing. Use hand trolley/ fork lift/ crane as applicable I required as per site conditions.
• Use the suitable lifting equipment i.e. small crane or chain block to place the chilled water pumps at
the inertia base.
• Comply with pump manufacturers written installation and alignment instructions.
• Install pumps in locations indicated and arrange to provide access for periodic maintenance, including
removal of motors impeller, couplings and accessories.
• Set base-mounted pumps on concrete equipment bases as indicated on the approved shop drawings.
Disconnect couplings halves before setting. Do not reconnect couplings until alignment operations
have been completed.
• Install suction and discharge pipe sizes equal to or greater than the diameter of the water pump
connections.
• Install valves of types and at locations indicated that are the same size as the piping connecting chilled
water pump, bypasses, test headers and other piping systems .

• Install pressure gauges on chilled water pump suction and discharge in such way to be easily readable
and completely isolated from vibration as per approved shop drawing.
• Support pumps and piping separately so that weight of piping system does not rest on pumps.
• Install piping accessories, hangers & supports, anchors, valve meters, gauges and equipment support
as indicated for complete installation and approved shop drawing.
• Install electrical devices furnished by equipment manufacturers and as per approved shop drawings.
• Verify that electrical wiring is installed according to manufacturer's recommendation and installation
requirements.
• Align pump and driver shafts after complete unit has been levelled on foundation and after grout has
set and foundation bolts have been tightened.
• Adjust alignment of pump and driver shafts for parallel.
• Parallel alignment may be checked by placing a straight edge across the two hubs measuring the
maximum offset at various points around the periphery of the hubs.
• Do not rotate shafts.
• Reposition equipment until offset is as small as possible.

• Forms of misalignment

1. Angular- shafts with concentric axes but not parallel.

2. Parallel- shafts with axes parallel but not concentric


• Checking the pump and motor alignment by using dial indicator or laser instruments and correcting
the axial and radial misalignment.
• The allowable misalignment at Radial max 0.04 mm and angular maximum 0.1 mm.
• Connect suction and discharge side of the piping system to chilled water pumps.
• After completion of all the piping connections, piping shall be checked for alignment or any
unsatisfactory condition.

• After alignment is correct, tighten foundation bolts evenly but not too firmly. Fill base plate
completely with non-shrink, non-metallic grout with metal blocks and shims or wedges in place. After
grout has hardened, fully tighten foundation bolts. Check alignment and take corrective measures
required.
• Calibrated pressure gauge shall be installed.
• All electrical connection shall be as per project requirement.
• Manufacturer recommendation details for Handling & Storage, Installation & Testing.
• Pre-Functional Checks & Testing.

rectifying the same.

6. Checking the visual leakage inspection.

checking the leakage at suction, discharge
piping, pump drain plug, pressure gauge port
and mechanical seal if found any leakage
rectify the same before start up.

7. Checking the direction of rotation.

Starting the motor and checking the direction


of rotation and it shall be as per the Pump
rotation, the pump rotation is marked on the
pump casing.

Operating the motor two hours in no load


and recording the current, vibration and
bearing temperature.

8. Coupler hood connection.

Pump and motor shaft will be connected


through coupler hood, bolts shall be
tightened as per coupling manufacturer
recommendabletorque.

Assembled the coupling guard on the base


plate, if possible, rotate the pump shaft by
hand to identify the rubbing noise.
• After completing the installation of Chilled Water Pumps, removed construction debris and leave the
site in a clean and tidy manner.
• Attach and fix the identification labels, safety and warning signs of approved material and correct
lettering at their locations as per approved shop drawings.
• The installation of Chilled Water Pump to be offered for Engineer's approval.

8.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE

The Quality Engineer is responsible to review, implement, and amend this site procedure.
QA/QC Engineer/Inspector shall ensure that the check sheets are completed by Project
Engineer /Site Engineer in accordance with the ITP requirements.

The Project Engineer I Site Engineer shall ensure that all the works shall be done in
accordance with Method statement & ITP requirements.

All the correspondence and reports shall be forwarded through approved formats.
Frequent quality checks shall be conducted by QA /QC Inspector. Prior to Engineers any
inspection, discrepancies noted are to be rectified . Inspection request shall be forwarded
to the Engineer progressively for each stage of the work, upon satisfactory completion.
Compliance to Engineer's comments will be required for approval I acceptance of the
works.
~ QC Engineers shall monitor all the stages of the work covered by this
Method Statement, Project Specified Requirement, and Approved
Shop Drawings.
~ The Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), Inspection Request (IR) and Check
sheets shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval.
9.0HSE

9.1 PPE REQUIREMENTS


As a minimum the following PPE should be used by staff I Labors;
• Safety shoes.
• Safety eyeglasses .
• Hand gloves .
• High visibility vest.
• Dust mask .
• Red, Green flags
• Hard hat (Safety helmet)

Any additional PPE as required by local rules or mandatory requirement shall be used.

9.2 SAFETY ACCESSORIES

• Warning /barricade/barrier tape.
• Safety signs.
• Igloo water container for drinking.
• First Aid box.
• Access Ladder
• Workers rest area

9.31NFORMATION TO PERSONNEL
• Safety Induction shall be done in accordance with Main Contractor HSE
Policy prior to start work in site.
• Safety toolbox meetings to be carried out prior to work to all
participating workforce and registered attendance.
• Before job start, check for protective & safety equipment to be use are in order.

• Safety personnel & designated responsible person shall ensure that all above is
carried out & any other statutory requirements are compiled before any work
takes .
• Hazard analysis.
• Personnel shall wear hand gloves, safety shoes, hard hat, ear plug & eye
protection during work.
• Use the correct tools to do the task.
• Removal of any obstructive I protruding materials.
• Measures shall be taken on dust exposure.
