B. Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes


1. Course Description
This is a three hour course that builds following Writing 1 and Writing 2 . It
focuses on the content, structure, and organization of academic essays. Students
work to correctly incorporate research into essays. Advanced sentence structures,
summarizing, paraphrasing, correct use of citations, proofreading skills, and
critical reading are addressed. The main aim of this course is to upgrade
students‟ skills in academic writing conventions, and equip them with a firm
understanding of the process of writing a research paper at the graduate level.

2. Course Main Objective


1. Understand that academic writing is a process and a skill which needs to be
acquired through practical practice

2. Recognize that reading and thinking skills are two key factors in improving
writing
3. Develop the writing skills and strategies that are necessary for a research
paper at the graduate level
4. Identify the writing process of planning a research paper; from writing the
outline to proof reading the final draft
5. Become familiar with the most common research process problems that
graduate students face
