Safeguard: Pabaon Sa Buhay (Protection for Life)

Seeing someone who has so much dedication despite all the negativity that his
receiving from other people, this man right here stayed strong in every obstacle and
listened to his mom wise words. Along with a degree in BA Behavioral Science is a
story filled with discrimination, poverty, and natural calamities. The moment Norman
King claimed his diploma wearing the traditional Aeta bahag (loincloth), he made
history. Norman King is the very first Aeta to graduate from the University of the
Philippines Manila. Just like his own father, a tribe leader – vows to become the voice
for our Aetas and other indigenous groups.
“Ang turo sa’kin ng nanay ko,” says Norman, “‘pag natanggap ko na kung sino ako, mas
malayo ang mararating ko.” This part of the advertisement, somewhat relates to me to
not give up despite being discriminated. Because sometimes, showing who really I am
and what really is my gender of me being a gay. I have to accept the reality that many of
the people is different. Above all of the bad things I might go through first, this just
inspires me to do all my best and endure all the struggles. And just like Norman King,
he has a mother who supports, guides, and protects him all the way to his journey. Just
like Warlita King, mothers give their children what they need to take on the world,
making sure that what they take from home will protect them in life. I also have a mother
just like Warlita King, Norman’s mother. My mother teaches me on how to deal with
discrimination in life, and not to take does criticism personally but, take that as my
strength and use it to be my inspiration to why should I pursue my dreams more. My
mother to me is my greatest inspiration in life and the biggest inspiration I have.
Moreover, this advertisement teaches all who care to watch the advertisement that
despite the different skin color, eye color, hair type, we should love ourselves. We are
created with love in our hearts not discrimination or hate. Let’s spread the love. We can
all be great and successful as well by pulling ourselves up as well. The strength we
have in the end of the day is only ourselves. Helping ourselves coping all of the hard
and easy challenges can improve ourselves to be more independent. Because not all
the time we have a mother who can protect us. Allow yourself to stand up and fight for
what is right, be fearless, and always remember to take some lessons with you.
