Video Editing Reflection

Did you plan for shooting? – Yes, a shot list was created to inform the specific shots

of the scenery that would form the video compilation.

Are your shots framed well? – The shots are framed satisfactorily; however, they

could have improved by utilising the ‘rule of thirds’ throughout every clip.

Are the shots visible and in focus? – The shots are all visible and in focus, however

there were some shakiness in the video cause by the motion of my walking. I have not

yet mastered the art of video capturing while walking.

What type of shots were used? – Mostly wide shots were used since the video’s

purpose was to showcase the location’s scenery. This camera angle was most

effective for this purpose.

What angles were used? – The videos were taken from a normal angle to simulate a

walk and progressive movement throughout the venue.

Did you zoom, pan, tilt, or use other camera movements? – Camera movements

including zooming and panning were utilised to gain a closer view of subjects and to

Did you use transitions? – Two transitions were used – dissolve and fly-in. These

transitions were only used on three occasions. These transitions were selected for no

other purpose but their visual appeal. There were instances where I insert transitions

between clips, however nothing materialised and I am still unable to determine the

reason.

Did you include music to enhance the emotion? – The original audio would have

proven chaotic since the video was taken outdoors in a usually noisy environment.

There I removed the original audio and used music as the background for the video,

The audio was clear and suited the purpose.

Did you include titles or graphics? – Titles and graphics were included in the video,

the fonts and colours that were selected were well suited for the purpose of the video.

The text and graphics selected did not clash with the video’s background where

applicable and the text was of an acceptable font size.

The video was edited to the best of the ability using the techniques that I have learnt

from the course site, as well as the various tutorials that I have watched online.

Whether the video was well edited from a technical standpoint – I am unable to

conclusively determine. However, there were no extraneous frames nor blank spots

throughout the video.

What worked well? – What worked well was the camera angles that I selected, the use

of zooming where needed, and panning to conclude the video, and the pairing of the

background music with the video’s subject.

What would I have done differently? – I would’ve liked to use a professional video

camera which would have yielded an even greater image quality. I would’ve hoped

that the transitions would work where I inserted them as I think this would add more

to the video.

How was the program in general? – This was such a fulfilling assessment to complete.

It was challenging, tedious and complicated in some areas. However, I am

appreciative of the experience that I have gained in manipulating software including

Lightworks and Blender, and the ability to plan, capture and edit videos. I anticipate

the imminent opportunities that will be presented for me to further hone these skills.
