ITE 366 LABORATORY ACTIVITY DAY 4

PLEASE RESEARCH THE DEFINITION OF THIS TERMS.

SYSTEM UNIT
- The part of a computer that houses the primary devices that
perform operations and produce results for complex
calculations. It includes the motherboard, CPU, RAM and other
components, as well as the case in which these devices are
housed. This unit performs the majority of the functions that a
computer is required to do.

CPU

- Principal part of any digital computer system, generally

composed of the main memory, control unit, and arithmetic-
logic unit. It constitutes the physical heart of the entire
computer system; to it is linked various peripheral equipment,
including input/output devices and auxiliary storage units. In
modern computers, the CPU is contained on an integrated
circuit chip called a microprocessor.

USB

– Common interface that enables communication between

devices and a host controller such as a personal computer
(PC) or smartphone. It connects peripheral devices such as
digital cameras, mice, keyboards, printers, scanners, media
devices, external hard drives and flash drives. Because of its
wide variety of uses, including support for electrical power,
the USB has replaced a wide range of interfaces like the
parallel and serial port.

DESKTOP

- Computer display area that represents the kinds of objects

one might find on top of a physical desk, including documents,
phone books, telephones, reference sources, writing and
drawing tools, and project folders.

PROGRAMS

- Specific set of ordered operations for a computer to perform.

In the modern computer that John von Neumann outlined in
1945, the program contains a one-at-a-time sequence of
instructions that the computer follows. Typically, the program
is put into a storage area accessible to the computer.

INSTALLER

- A piece of software used to install software programs on a

system. Installers simplify software installation by providing
the user a step-by-step process with the ability to select the
desired options.

APPLICATION

- A software program that runs on your computer. Web

browsers, e-mail programs, word processors, games, and
utilities are all applications. The word "application" is used
because each program has a specific application for the user.
For example, a word processor can help a student create a
research paper, while a video game can prevent the student
from getting the paper done.

PROGRAM SEGMENT

- A data structure used in DOS systems to store the state of a

program.

ESSAY

DIFFENTIATE HARDWARE FROM SOFTWARE

 Hardware refers to the physical and visible components

of the system such as a monitor, CPU, keyboard and
mouse. Software, on the other hand, refers to a set of
instructions which enable the hardware to perform a
specific set of tasks.

WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE?

 A set of rules and methods that describe the

functionality, organization, and implementation of
computer systems. The architecture of a system refers to
its structure in terms of separately specified components
of that system and their interrelationships.
