Example 1 x
Suppose the NCAA basketball championships is decided on a
Example 1
best of five series game. In how many different ways can a team
win the championships?

SOLUTION:

Example 2 Step 1: Understand the Problem.

There are many different orders to win the championships.
The team may have win three straight games (WWW) or maybe they
could lose the first two games and won the last three games
(LLWWW). There are also other possibilities such as WWLW, WLWW,
Example 3 or WLWLW.

Step 2: Devise a Plan.

Make an organized list of all people orders and ensure
that each of the different orders is counted for only once.

Step 3: Carry Out the Plan.
Example 1
Each entry in the list must contain three Ws and may
contain one or two loses. Use a strategy to each order. One
strategy produces ten (10) different orders shown below.

WWW (Start with three wins)

Example 2 WWLW (Start with two wins)
WWLLW (Start with two wins)
WLWW (Start with one win)
WLLWW (Start with one win)
WLWLW (Start with one win)

Step 4: Look Back.
Example 1
The list above is organized and contains no duplications.
It includes all possibilities, we can conclude that there are ten
(10) different ways in which a basketball team can win the NCAA
championships in the best of 5 games.

Two times the sum of a number and 3 is equal to thrice the

number plus 4. Find the number.

SOLUTION:

Step 1: Understand the Problem.

Example 2 We need to make sure that we have read the question
carefully several times. Since we are looking for a number, we
will let x be a number.

Step 2: Devise a Plan.

Example 3 We will translate the problem mathematically. Two times
the sum of a number and 3 is equal to thrice the number plus 4.

2(x+3)=3x+4

Example 4

Example 2 x
Step 3: Carry Out the Plan.
Example 1
We solve for the value of x, algebraically.

2(x+3)=3x+4
2x+6=3x+4
3x-2x=6-4
Example 2 x=2

Step 4: Look Back.

If we take two times the sum of 2 and 3, that is the same
as thrice the number 2 plus 4 which is 10, so this does check.
Example 3 Thus, the number is 2.

and Achaiah as much money as each had. Then each of the three had
₱128. How much money did each have orginally.

Example 2 SOLUTION:

Step 1: Understand the Problem.

The problem is a little bit confusing and needs to be
carefully analyzed.

Step 2: Devise a Plan.

We will be working backwards.

There are four stages to this problem. We will number it
from fourth to first.

Fourth: Each has ₱128.

Third: Riana gave Sofia and Achaiah as much money as each has.
Example 2 Second: Achaiah gave Sofia and Riana as much money as each has.
First: Sofia gave Achaiah and Riana as much money as each has.

We check the result.

Stages Sofia Achaiah Riana

First 208 112 64
Example 2 Second 208 – 112 – 64 = 32 112 + 112 = 224 64 + 64 = 128
Third 32 + 32 = 64 224 – 32 – 128 = 64 128 + 128 = 256
Fourth 64 + 64 = 128 64 + 64 = 128 256 – 64 – 64 = 128

If the length of the top of a rectangle is 15 inches more

than its width and the area is 1,350 square inches. Find the
dimension of the table.

Step 1: Understand the Problem.

We are looking for the length and width of the rectangular
Example 2 table; and we will let l be the length and w be the width. It is
indicated in the problem that the length is 15 inches longer than
the width (l=15+w)

Step 2: Devise a Plan.

Example 3 We will apply the area of the rectangular formula Area=lw.
1,350 = lw = (15+w)w

Example 4

Example 4
8/1/2020
Example 4 x
Step 3: Carry Out the Plan.
Example 1
1,350 = (15+w)w
1,350 = 15w+w2
w2-15w = 1,350
(w+45)(w-30) = 0
w+45 = 0 w-30 = 0
Example 2 w = -45 w = 30

Since, measurement cannot be negative, the width of the rectangle

is 30. The length is l = 15+w = 15+30 = 45 inches.

Example 3 Step 4: Look Back.

If the width of a rectangle is 30 inches and the length is
15 inches longer than the width which is 45 inches. The area of a
rectangle is Area = lw = 30(45) = 1,350 square inches. Thus, the
width is 30 and the length is 45 inches.

Introduction
Recreational Mathematics is
mathematics done for
recreation or as a hobby and
intended to be fun.
Recreational
Mathematics
Recreational mathematics is mathematics carried out for
recreation (entertainment) rather than as a strictly
research and application-based professional activity or as a
part of a student's formal education. Although it is not
necessarily limited to being an endeavor for amateurs,
many topics in this field require no knowledge of advanced
mathematics. Recreational mathematics involves
mathematical puzzles and games, often appealing to
children and untrained adults, inspiring their further study
of the subject.

Tower of Hanoi
The Tower of Hanoi is a mathematical game or puzzle consisting of three rods and a number of disks of
various diameters, which can slide onto any rod. The puzzle begins with the disks stacked on one rod in
order of decreasing size, the smallest at the top, thus approximating a conical shape.

Sudoku
Sudoku is a logic-based, combinatorial number-placement puzzle. In classic Sudoku, the objective is to fill a
9 × 9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3 × 3 sub grids that compose the
grid (also called "boxes", "blocks", or "regions") contain all of the digits from 1 to 9. The puzzle setter
provides a partially completed grid, which for a well-posed puzzle has a single solution.

Minesweeper
Minesweeper is single-player logic-based computer game played on rectangular board
whose object is to locate a predetermined number of randomly-placed "mines" in the
shortest possible time by clicking on "safe" squares while avoiding the squares with
mines. If the player clicks on a mine, the game ends.

The theorem is concerned with

shapes on a square grid. A board
is any combination of grid squares,
some of which are blank whilst
some are marked with mines. Each
blank square in a board is assigned
a poor neighbor number, which is
the number of adjacent squares of
the board that carry a mine.

consisting of seven flat polygons,
called tans, which are put together to
form shapes. The objective is to
replicate a pattern generally found in

2048
2048 is a game where you combine
numbered tiles in order to gain a higher
numbered tile. In this game you start
with two tiles, the lowest possible
number available is two. Then you will
play by combining the tiles with the
same number to have a tile with the
sum of the number on the two tiles.
