CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION TO THE INDUSTRY

INTRODUCTION

We often call 'Media' the way other content is made and delivered to the audience.
Organizations and individuals involved in this process form the Media industry.

The media industry can be defined as a diverse group of organizations that share the production,
publication and distribution of media articles. Media can be used to inform, entertain, or
promote ideas or products.

Audiences can consume media content in many different ways on specific platforms.

‘Traditional media’ or ‘classic media’ are the names given to industries that existed before the
internet, such as radio, print and television.

7
New media is a much-needed online content for digital devices, such as your computers and
smartphones.

New media documents can include inclusive features such as audience engagement and
feedback.

Advances in technology have allowed the previously diverse media industry to improve media
integration.

Media integration allows audiences to use the same platform to use different types of media
documents.

There are also emerging formats and platforms for media texts that have developed since the
rise of the internet. They are called ‘new media’ and include:

• Websites
• Blogs
• Vlogs

8
PRINT MEDIA

Simply put, print media is a printed version of telling stories, especially through newspapers
and magazines. Before the invention and the widespread use of printing presses, printing
materials had to be handwritten It was a spectacular process that made mass distribution
impossible.

Chinese printers have replaced wood blocks, which were once used to print images and small
amounts of text, and are beginning to produce popular books with ease. Each page of text was
a single block that could be used repeatedly to make books.

Print Media in India Printing technology came to India in 1556. Jesuit priests The first
newspaper in India was published in 1780 The first book published in India was in Portuguese
in Old Goa. It was Doctrina Christa by St. Francis Xavier.

The World Association of Newspapers considers the original newspaper The Relation,
published in Germany in 1604. It was published regularly (weekly), distributed to the public
and covered a wide range of subjects, from politics to entertainment.

9
TIMES OF INDIA
Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited, abbreviated as B.C.C.L. and The Times Group, an
Indian media organization headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The company remains a
business owned by the Sahu Jain family with a large share of The Times Group.

The Times of India, a daily English morning newspaper published in Mumbai, Ahmadabad and
Delhi. It is one of the most influential papers in India, and its voice often matches that of the
national government.

Originally called the Bombay Times and the Journal of Commerce, the paper was founded in
1838 for the benefit of British citizens in western India. Originally published twice a week, the
paper became daily in 1851 and changed its name to The Times of India in 1861.

After Indian independence The Times' emphasis on precision, its avoidance of attractiveness,
its serious tone, and its international coverage have enhanced its reputation in India, where over
the years it has been known as a spy newspaper. Its availability of international news, like that
of other major Indian dailies, is complete, including a quarter of the planning area.

10
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
A sales and marketing internship, whether required or not, will give you the opportunity to
explore a career in which you are interested. Sales and marketing grads have many options to
choose from, and it can be difficult to narrow down all options. Of course, you do not need to
know exactly what you want to do after graduation, but getting an internship will help you
highlight one or more of those career options. Finding a sales and marketing internship where
the following goals are reached will have a profound effect on your decision.

1) Further education and certification.

2) Making professional communication.

3) Promoting mentor / mentee relationships.

4) Communication and leadership.

5) Finding a good working environment.

6) Being free and adaptable.

An internship experience can give you a valuable advantage in job evaluation and be an
excellent builder, but it is important to remember that the credit for education is rewarded with
the education you receive, not just the work experience alone.

The main purpose of conducting a course internship is to better understand the thoughts, ideas,
and practices of your discipline or major by engaging in participatory learning.

In addition, an internship can be a fun way to study. Your internship can give you the
opportunity to question and explore the discrepancy between theory and practice.

CHAPTER – 3

FUNCTIONAL PROFILE ANALYSIS

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

THE TIMES OF INDIA The Times of India has been criticized for being the first to
institutionalize the practice of paid news in India, where politicians, businessmen,
corporations and celebrities can pay the newspaper and its journalists would carry
the desired news for the newspaper offers prominence with which the paid news is
placed and the page on which it is displayed based on the amount of the payment.
According to this practice, a payment plan assures a news feature and ensures
positive coverage to the payer In 2005, The Times of
India began the practice of "private treaties", also called as "brand capital", where
new companies, individuals or movies seeking mass coverage and public relations,
major brands and organizations were offered sustained positive coverage and plugs
in its news columns in exchange for shares or other forms of financial obligations
to and has contracts in place with many companies in diverse sectors.
The "paid news" and "private treaties" blur the lines between content and
advertising, with the favorable coverage written by the staff reporters on the payroll
of The Times of Indi The newspaper has defended its practice in 2012 by stating that
it includes a note of disclosure to the reader – though in a small font – that its
contents are "advertorial, entertainment promotional feature", that they are doing
this to generate revenues just like "all newspapers in the world do advertorials"
according to The Times of India owner According to Maya Ranganathan, this
overlap in the function of a journalist to also act as a marketing and advertisement
revenue seeker for the newspaper raises conflict of interest questions, a problem
that has morphed into ever-larger scale in India and recognized by India's SEBI
authority in July 2009.
25
Under an ad sales initiative called Media net, if a large company or Bollywood
studio sponsored a news-worthy event, the event would be covered by the Times of
India but the name of the company or studio that sponsored it will not be mentioned
in the paper unless they paid the Times of India for advertising. In 2010, a report by
a subcommittee of India's Press Council found that Medianet's paid news strategy
had spread to a large number of newspapers and more than five hundred television
channels.[Critics state that the company's paid news and private treaties skew its
coverage and shield its newspaper advertisers from scrutiny. The Hoot, a media
criticism website, has pointed out that when an elevator in a 19-storey luxury
apartment complex in Bangalore crashed killing two workers and injuring seven, all
the English language
and language newspapers with the exception of the Times of India called out the
name of the construction company, Sobha Developers, which was a private-treaty
partner. An article titled "reaping gold through bt cotton," which first appeared in
the Nagpur edition of the Times of India in 2008, reappeared unchanged in 2011,

CHAPTER -4

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Task

As part of the summer internship program, we were assigned to book subscriptions for various

magazines published by World Wide Media and sold and distributed by Times of India, and

charge renewal fees for expired subscribers.

Research Methodology

• Anticipate and explore customer needs in terms of price, quality and service of magazines

published by World Wide Media (WWM).

• Understand why subscribers do not renew or stop their subscription.

Problem definition: What are the various ways that World Wide Media lags behind in

meeting customer needs?

38
Research Method:

This exploratory research was conducted using raw data. The data will be qualitative and

quantitative. Data is collected through personal interviews, door-to-door interviews and

telephone interviews.

Research Design:
• Geographical Location: The geographic location adopted for data collection and research in

Kaithal.

• Sample size: The sample size for collecting raw data is 150 respondents. Sampling will be

carried out by random technique.

Table:-

Reader 100

Non-Reader 50

39
• Data collection methods: The data was collected through personal interviews, doors

and telephone interviews to the visit to the door.

• Target Group: The answer is composed of existing subscribers, aborted subscribers

and non-readers.

Limitations:
Despite the hurdles was a good time for learning experience and exposure to atmosphere and

culture but there are certain limitations that every researcher have to face during the research

period. I had found

• The work of the site for the purpose of the research was limited to the city of Kaithal .

Therefore, the entire consumer can not represent the entire consumer, since consumers'

appreciation can be placed in a place for demographic factors.

• The size of the sample is 150.

• The study has been completed during a short span while carrying my own studies. So it

was not possible to study the problems well in details.

• Respondents were not serious about filling the questionnaire.

40
• Respondents were lacking in education about questionnaire because of which they took

time

• It is also very hard to pursue an employee to share his feelings about their company.

• To contact senior officers was also difficult as they were always busy. So we had to wait

for them.

• Some respondents did not respond and some did not filled the questionnaire completely

but, finally I should say that I thoroughly enjoyed the project work.

DATA ANALYSIS & INTERPRETAITONS

Option Respondents (%)

Yes 100%
No 0

41
Survey of which newspaper people reads

Option Respondents (%)

Times of India 45%

Hindustan times 25%

The economic times 10%

42
Interpretation:

The above graph shows that 45% of the respondents read Times of India, 25% of them read

Hindustan times, 10% read the Economics Times, 15% read The Indian express and rest of 5%

read the tribune.

FINDINGS
• Magazines are well entertained, updated and well informative.

• The price according to the quality of the magazines is satisfactory.

• Subscribers have high demand in the improvement of services.

• There is a tough competition among magazines in Kaithal.

• Maximum people prefer Hindi rather than English.

• Subscription schemes attract more customers.

• Schemes with gift are playing a good role in increasing readership as there are a lot of

customers who have subscribed only for gift.

43
• There are a big number of boutiques and designers in Kaithal and most of them deals

with Indian traditions. That’s why the contents should specific customer centric.

• Peoples are highly interested in magazines but low awareness about the schemes.

RECOMMENDATION

• Improve the service: The first suggestion that can be made from the results of the research

is to improve the service. Because WWM magazines are in high demand. Customers now

have many options for choosing magazines, because there are many producers of magazines

in different languages and the use of the Internet is increasing. Therefore, a small problem

faced by the customer can lead to the loss of that problem.

• Better Distribution Channels: I also want to suggest that by implementing better

distribution channels, TOI can increase its market share.

• Better upgrade reminder system: Better upgrade reminder system can also be

implemented. There is a reminder system, but customers complain that they did not receive a

reminder alert.

44
• New Employee Appointment: TOI can also improve its services by providing good

training and appointing new employees as "customer service executives" so that they can

respond well to customers who encounter problems. Because the current response from

customers is not good.

• Hindi version of Femina: The target group in Kaithal also has a demand for the Hindi

version of Femina. By doing so, they can gain readers of other magazines such as Gruhsubha.

CONCLUSION

Today is competitive surroundings records got here for each place. Media play a totally

privation role to print media which appears the cash maker enterprise. Newspaper are compete

every different to increase their movement and movement is reason to generate cash. Now

they're focused on the worthwhile machine that's college students if college students us edited
