 Reading – Introducing phonics phase 2 sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d,


g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h), concepts of print and daily class stories
 Writing – Mark making; building hand strength with Playdoh; fine
motor skills; drawing and scribing by teacher; copying over or
under an adult’s writing or copying from a whiteboard
 Talking and Listening – Circle time; taking turns; listening and
talking games
Language
 Numbers 1-10 – Reading, writing, tagging, recognising, ordering,
drawing and counting out
 2D and 3D Shape
 Positional Language
Mathematics
 Emotion Works – Becoming familiar with emotion words
 Building Resilience (Assemblies)
 PE – Multi-skill games and activities; ball skills

Children will have PE on a Monday and a Thursday. Please make sure they
have suitable clothing and footwear in school which they can wear on
Health & these days. We will have active outdoor breaks in the afternoons, so
Wellbeing please ensure children come to school with appropriate footwear and
outerwear every day.

Additional Please make sure your child has a snack and a bottle with them every
day which is filled with water rather than juice. This is particularly
important on PE days.

Primary 1 will be doing outdoor learning on a Thursday afternoon, so


please make sure they have weather-appropriate clothing with them on
a Thursday including wellies and a waterproof jacket.

It would be a great help if you could label your children’s clothes, lunch
boxes and water bottles with their names so that they can be returned
if they end up in the wrong place. Thank you to those who have already
done so!
How you can help  Reading stories to/with your child on a daily basis
 Encouraging your child to practise counting to 10 and back
your child’s
 Practising saying sounds with your child – e.g. “What sound does
learning at home this word start with?” or “Can you think of something that
starts with this sound?”
