*IMPORTANT*

(I) Please TAKE NOTE that the PASSING of MPU modules is NOT solely
dependent on the submission of the assigned assignments/coursework BUT
also on the QUALITY of the written work submitted, (the student must ensure
that the work submitted must fulfil/meet the minimal standard and criteria
required to achieve the passing grade).

(II) All assignments/submissions MUST be :

(I) submitted (turned in) via Microsoft Teams; &

(II) sent to the lecturer via email.

Submissions MUST be made according to the deadline set and by way of the
methods set out in (1) and (2) above. Any submissions made 3 days after the
deadline for submission will be rejected and will not be scored. Late
submissions of between 1 to 3 days after the deadline set will incur a penalty
deduction of 5% per day. Submissions made using other methods apart from
those set out in Section (1) and (2) above will be rejected and will not
receive any points whatsoever.

(III) Please note that we will NOT accept any


submissions/changes/corrections of submitted assignments after the
deadline to the lecturer’s e-mail. You will have to submit the exact same
document to MS TEAMS and also to the lecturer’s e-mail. We will only accept
the submissions made to MS TEAMS and via e-mail on or before the
submission date. Any re-submissions/corrections/changes made to the document
and sent to the lecturer via e-mail after the MS TEAMS submission deadline
will not be entertained. Thus, please ensure you check your submissions before
submitting them.

(IV) To fulfil the MPU attendance requirements, a student’s attendance to a


workshop/class will ONLY be regarded as “Present” if the student complies
with the 2 rules stated below:

(I) Join and stay throughout the teaching and learning session. (Lecturers
will monitor all students’ sign-in and sign-out time based on the Attendance
Report generated by the Microsoft Teams).

(II) Submit the Class Activity into the submission box on Microsoft
Teams at the end of each workshop.

Failure to comply with any of the above rules without a valid reason and
supporting documents, the student will be removed from the group assigned on
MS Teams and will be then enrolled into the following cohorts.

RULES AND REQUIREMENTS*

Studies Department procedures as outlined in this form.

* All students are obliged to comply with the requirements. Students must be
well aware of the consequences which they have to bear for disobeying the
requirements.

MANDATORY

 General Studies Modules (MPU) are compulsory for


UNDERGRADUATE- MALAYSIAN and INTERNATIONAL
STUDENTS.
 It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that they have completed
ALL the required MPU modules before graduation. If you require
further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact or send an email
to the General Studies Department.

ATTENDANCE RULES

 Attendance for each workshop will be ONLY be taken/counted based on


the acknowledgement of attendance taken at the beginning of the
workshop as well as upon the submission of class activities into the
Microsoft Teams at the end of each workshop. For further details, please
refer to the respective instructor.
 Once assigned to a group, students are NOT allowed to join any other
group except the one assigned to him/her UNLESS permission is granted
by the General Studies Department. Do not hesitate to contact GSD staff
if you need further clarification and assistance on this.
 Students must attend all the workshops stated in his/her timetable. Please
take note that all attendance will be recorded and monitored for every
student in each group.
 Students who are absent on the 1st day and/or any subsequent workshop
without a letter of explanation for their absence (attached with the
supporting documents) will NOT be allowed to attend the following
workshops. As such, his/her name will be removed from the group in
Microsoft Teams that he/she have enrolled in.
 Students who are late for more than 20 minutes for any workshop shall be
considered absent from the workshop. No reason will be entertained.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS

 Students are required to use purely academic resources including the ones
available publicly online (e.g., academic journals, books, newspaper
articles, etc.) in their MPU written assignments. Unreliable resources
(e.g., Wikipedia, blogs, slide shares, shared documents, tabloids, etc.) are
strictly prohibited. Failure to comply so will result in mark deductions.
 Citation – is COMPULSORY for MPU assignment(s). 5 MARKS WILL
BE DEDUCTED FOR WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT WITHOUT
CITATION.

ASSESSMENT OFFENCES

PLAGIARISM

 Plagiarism is an academic offense and is strictly PROHIBITED. It occurs


when a student presents someone else’s work, words, images, ideas,
opinions, whether published or not, as their own. It also refers to work of
others which are not properly acknowledged where this is from or done
without permission. It can be both deliberate and accidental.
 The university takes cases of plagiarism seriously and anyone who is
found to have committed plagiarism in their academic work can receive
penalties ranging from zero marks to expulsion from the university.

Examples of plagiarism include;

 directly copying from written work without saying where this is from. If
the students caught to be ‘COPY and PASTE,’ the assignment marks will
be deducted;
 using information from the internet which belongs to someone else, and
presenting it as their own;
 rewording someone else’s work, without referencing them;
 improper referencing and
 handing in something for assessment which has been produced by another
student or person

COLLUSION

 Collusion is similar to plagiarism as it is an attempt to present another


person’s work as your own. In plagiarism the original owner of the work
is not aware you are using it, in collusion two or more people may be
involved in trying to produce one piece of work to benefit one individual,
or plagiarizing another person’s work.

Examples of collusion include:

• agreeing with others to cheat;


• getting someone else to produce part or all of your work;
• copying the work of another person (with their permission);
• submitting work from essay banks;
• paying someone to produce work for you; and

 Students are reminded that any work submitted must be your own. When
you are preparing your work for submission, it is important that you
understand the various academic conventions that you are expected to
follow in order to make sure that you do not leave yourself open to
accusations of plagiarism (e.g. the correct use of referencing, citations,
footnotes etc.) and that your work maintains its academic integrity.

 All cases of academic misconduct will be subjected to an investigation


and if found guilty of committing an offense the student may be subject
to a range of penalties ranging from receiving zero marks in the piece of
work, module and also termination.

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS – ONLINE SESSION

 All students’ work which contributes to the actual outcome of the module
determines whether the students will pass or fail the module and counts
towards the marks they will achieve for the module.
 Students who are absent in any workshop (2nd workshop and above)
without valid reason will be deemed to be i) not fulfilling MPU
completion requirements, and subsequently ii) barred from submitting
any required written documents/assignments. For more details, please
contact General Studies Department.
 IMPORTANT: If a student fails the Community Service Project module
in the first attempt, he/she will be allowed to sit for a resit exam. To be
allowed to sit for a resit exam, the student MUST make sure that all
assignments/submissions have been made. Or else, the student MUST
retake the module.

**All the above MPU rules and requirements are subject to change and will be
reviewed from time to time.
