Students are influenced more by their friends than by their teachers.

Teachers are the ones who educate us about the subjects we are learning at school, which
enables them to affect the students. However, would the teachers really be the one to influence the
most? I do not think so. I believe that the students, or rather teenagers, are influenced by their friends
the most because of the following reasons.

To begin with, students spend their time with their friends most of the time. It is quite
obvious/it is evident that people are, not to mention, influenced by others spending the most time the
most in a close relationship. Since the friends are the ones who have the most interaction with the
students, sometimes more than their family, they are the most suitable ones to influence the students’
lifestyle. For example, when I was in my 9th grade, there was my best friend who spent time together
from the morning until late at night. Let me illustrate how she has influenced my eating habit. Before I
met her, I had hated vegetables and could not understand/see the point of why the others were eating
vegetables. However, while hanging out with her, she liked to go to a salad shop and she said she really
likes the salad sold there. At first, I thought her taste was quite unique. As the time passed by, I started to
get curious if it really tastes good. Unfortunately, I was not able to go to that shop because it was out of
stock/budget whenever I went there, but the important point is that I started to like vegetables. Thanks
to her, I was able to have a healthy diet, and I believe that I would not have changed the habit if my
teachers forced me to change. For those who do not eat vegetables at my age are mostly obese and
have been suffering from various sicknesses. This is one of the reasons why friends like her are more
influential on their friends in a positive way.

In addition, the students determine if they are having a happy school life or not depending on
the relationship with their friends. To be honest, teachers do not count there that much/are not counted
that much. If a student does not have a good relationship with one particular teacher in school, this
student would just probably just get rid of that teacher out of their mind when he or she is not listening
to that/taking the teacher’s subject. However, this would not probably be the case in the relationship
with their classmates, or rather friends. Frankly speaking, even the scores of school activities are more
dependent on their friends than the teachers. For instance, when I was in my grade 10, there was my
friend who was the top in our batch. Since that was my first year of studying abroad, she had helped me a
lot on how to do well in school. Unlike the teachers who already have too much schoolwork to do, my
friend was able to answer even my trivial questions about our school or homework. Also, when we were
given group projects, I was in the same group with her for the most of the time which made me relieved
on getting good grades as well as making new friends from the group. This has further made me able to
interact with more of my classmates when I was not able to be in the same group with her. I think she
had greatly enhanced the school life by making me happy staying in school, which the teachers would not
have been able to do.

To sum up, most of the teachers in Korea are either married or have loved ones to set their top
priority on. Not that I am saying that they are irresponsible for their job but they cannot be as influential
as a student’s friend. Both teachers and friends can influence a student’s life, but the friends are more
likely to affect the student in higher possibilities due to the longer time spent together and many school
activities.
