The government should invest in developing medical technologies rather than in improving public

transportations.
Medical technology lets us live healthier lives while public transportation gives us conveniences
in moving to other places. Some may think it is better to improve public transportation for them to move
to other places faster and save the environment. However, I believe it would be better for the
government to invest more in medical technologies.

To begin with, unlike public transportation, enhanced medical technology is needed in order to
save severe patients’ lives. There are countless misfortune cases where doctors have no way but only to
encounter patients’ demise due to lack of medical technology. For example, my aunt had cancer when I
was young. When she was hospitalized in the hospital, I eavesdropped on my dad and other aunts talking
about the high risk doctors said about the surgery she would take. At that time I could not understand
what they were talking about but was delighted only to see my lovely aunt in a few hours. When she
returned to her room and opened her eyes, I was so happy to see her and talked about what I wanted to
do with her as she would be discharged from the hospital. However, what I could see was her heart beat
stop after a small smile with a grimace. I understand that the treatments she had taken were the best the
doctors who could do at that time. Nevertheless, I cannot get rid of my mind that she would have lived
with the high technology to cure the cancer. As a result, based on my experience, the government should
invest as much money as they have in improving medical technologies.

In addition, public transportation has already developed a lot. It is not hard to see the buses and
taxies on the street. Also, the subways allow us to travel without suffering the traffic jam. These
transportation systems are so well-constructed that even elementary students have less difficulty using
them by themselves. For instance, when I was in my grade 5, I was part of the symphony orchestra
playing the violin. It was quite far from my house to the practicing room of the orchestra because we had
to ride both the subway and bus in order to get there. Although I did not even graduate elementary
school yet, I had no problem transferring lines of the subways and to the bus. I could also save money by
using transportation cards available country-wide which cost no fee for transferring from the subway to
the bus and vice versa. Also, since the electric board in front of both bus and subway stations informed
passengers the time left for the next bus or subway to arrive at the station, I was able to manage my time
well in order not to be late. People are already using highly developed transportation. Consequently, the
government should not waste even penny investing money in public transit.
To sum up, I strongly believe that the government should focus on the improvement of medical
technology more than that of public transportation. As the medical technologies enhance, more patients
would be able to be healthy without unfortunate circumstances. Also, the public transportation is
convenient enough to use today already.
