CLIMATE CHANGE & ENERGY CRISIS

WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?

> Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be
natural, but since the 1800’s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily
due to the burning of fossils fuels (like coal, oil and gas) which procedures heat trapping gases.

>The earth’s climate is influenced and changed through natural causes like volcano eruptions, ocean
currents, the earth’s orbital changes, solar variations and internal variability.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE?

>the impact of climate change on different sectors of society are interrelated. Drought can harm food
production and human health. Flooding can lead to disease spread and damages to ecosystems and
infrastructure. Human health issues can increase mortality, impact food availability, and limit worker
productivity.

> the main ways to stop climate change are to pressure the government and business to keep fossil fuels
in the ground…………invest in renewable energy……..switch to sustainable transport……..help us keep our
homes cosy….improve farming and encourage vegan diets……..restore nature to absorb more
carbon…..protect forests like the amazon

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

>Generating power

>generating electricity and heat by burning fossil such as soil, oil and natural gas causes a large chunk of
global emissions

1.MANUFACTURING GOODS

>manufacturing and industry procedure emissions, mostly from burning fossils fuels to produce energy
for making things like cement, iron, steel, electronics, plastics, clothes and other goods mining and other
industrial processes also release gases.

2.CUTTING DOWN FORESTS

> cutting down forests to create farms or pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions, tress, when
they are cut, release the carbon they have been storing. Since forests absorb carbon dioxide destroying
them also limits nature’s ability to keep emissions out of the atmosphere.

3. USING TRANSPORTATION

>most cars, ships and planes run on fossil fuels that makes transportation a major contributor of
greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide emissions road vehicles account for the largest part, but
emissions from ships and planes continue to grow.

4. CONSUMING TOO MUCH

>consuming too much

>your home and use of power, how you move around, what you eat and how much you throw away all
contribute to greenhouse gas emissions so does the consumption of goods such as clothing, electronics
and plastics

ENERGY CRISIS

WHAT IS ENERGY CRISIS?

>the energy crisis is the concern that the world’s demands on the limited natural resources that are
used to power industrial society are diminishing as the demand rises. These natural resources are in
limited supply. While they do occur naturally, it can take hundreds of thousands of years to replenish
the stores. Governments and concerned individuals are working together to make the use of renewable
resources a priority and to lessen the irresponsible use of natural supplies through increased
conservation.

>most energy crises have been by localized shortages, wars and market manipulation. Some have
argued that government actions like tax hikes, nationalization of energy companies, and regulation of
the energy sector, shift supply and demand of energy away from its economic equilibrium.

VARIOUS CAUSES OF THE GLOBAL ENERGY CRISIS

>various causes of the global energy crisis over consumption.

Overpopulation

Poor infrastructure

Unexplored renewable energy option

Delay in commissioning power plants

Waste of energy

Poor distribution system

Major accidents and natural calamities
