This reading is describing about a story about most well known haunting in American history from 1817
and took place in small town of Adams, Tennessee. named the bell witch. This story is so well known,
even caught attention of a future president of the United States. This story become the inspiration of many
modern horror film named The Blair Witch Project. because it is so frightening.
The story is stared when Kate Batts believed that her neighbor cheated her in a land purchase. She swore
that she would haunt john bell and his family. After that, the bell family stared having the impact of that
swore. and the bell family being tormented by that. The visitors said, Mrs. bell sounds like a witch. The
spirit of old Kate let john and Betsy bell on a merry chase. She thew furniture and dishes at them. She
pulled their noses, yanked their hair.
The news spread quickly even reached Nashville even the future president wanted to come to saw the
phenomenon. until the neighborhood around bell decided to investigate the case ended up haunted as
well, they got pushed their wagon couldn’t move until they are encountered the witch and it be the worst
experience they ever had. This haunting of bell house continued for several years, ending with the ghost
ultimate act of vegenance. In October 1820, john bell suffered a stroke. And his health never improved
On December 19, John Bell's family discovered he was not sleeping properly. Then John Bell was found
unconscious and could not be awakened. They tried to wake John Bell by giving him his usual medicine.
But when he took it, the medicine was not there. Instead, there was another bottle of medicine, and it
looked strange. The medicine was given to John Bell, but his condition worsened. They called a doctor
On the other hand, the witch felt happy because she had successfully exchanged John Bell's original
medicine for poison. In the end, John Bell died on December 20th.
Of course, the witch was happy, she started singing loudly with joy, at John Bell's grave. Many
phenomena occurred after John Bell's death. This curse runs as John Bell's descendants are still alive.
Like the story of Richard Powell and Betsy. Betsy is a descendant of John Bell, with the name Betsy Bell.
Powell tried to get Betsy by destroying Betsy’s relationship with Gardner. By using this Bell Witch trick.
