CUBA

1.I think that they didnt invade cuba because yhey knew the USSR was with cuba giving the
arms, so if they invade them, instantly the USSR would have appeared to do whatever they could
to destroyed and weakened his capitalist enemie

2. The soviet impression was that Khrushchev was scornful of Kennedys pathetic attempt to oust
communism from Cuba. The USA and the President were seen as weak for this failure and that
they were unwillling to get directly involved in Cuba.

3. He had several options. Option 1 was to do nothing. The americans had more nuclear
weapons than the USSR and they could destroyed it easily, so the USSR vould never use these
missiles. But the USSR had lied before about cuban missiles, so do nothing was another signed
of weakness, and for Kennedy was not an option. The second option was to attaclk the nuclear
bases by air, so they were destroyed before they could used it but it wasnt guaranteed to
destroy all areas, also soviet soldiers would be killed. All this was seen as an innmoral thing to
do. The third option was to invade by air and sea. They would get rid of Castro and the missiles
but it was assured that the USSR would response to protect Cuba. Option 4 was to go to the UN
or other body to intervene. This would avoid conflict but it the USA was forced to back down it
was a sign of weakness. The last option was a blockade, it meant a ban on the soviet union
bringing in any further military supplies to Cuba enforced by the US navy. This would show that
the USA was serious and Khrushchev would have to decide what to do next. But it would not
solve the main proble the missiles were in cuba and they coul be used.

4. There are various possible explanations: To bargain with the USA, he could use the missiles as
a threat to make some concessions. To test the USA, the soviets wanted to see if the USA would
back off or face up. To trap the USA, Khrushchev wanted to create a nuclear war. To close the
missile gap, the USSR was so corcened about it so with the missiles in cuba there wer less
opporunities to laucnh a first strike against them. To defend Cuba, they were the only ones with
communist ideas ruling over the country and no one forced them, and also they made excellent
propapganda to the USSR just by existing. To srenghthen his own positions in his own country,
people didnt believe him inside his own country of how much nuclear power had, so he wanted
to show that his country was a really nuclear power.

5.the conflict ended in the removal of missiles in both parts. The USSR agreed to remove its
missiles from Cuba, and also the USA had to remove its missiles from Turkey, this was a secret
because Kennedy didnt want to tell it. Ithink although it help with the development of the Col
War, it was one of the best outcomes, there were not soldiers included, some helping with the
blockade but was minor comparing it to a an invasion. Also i think that the country that would
have been more damaged would have been Cuba, it was the point of fight between these two
superpowers, so the part of Kennedy that delay many attacks really helped Cuba.

6. the source 22 represents how the superpowers were fighting relying on their nuclear powers.
The one on the left is kHRUSHCHEV and on the right is President Kennedy, and they are sitting on
missiles, representing the nuclear powers they have to use whenever they want, any time they
could throw the missile, this is represented by the buttones that are on the table, the velovity
they have to start a war. Also in my opinion they are both seated representing that no war is
developing at that moment and they problem es being developed though letters and not in a
violent way, like is fighting in the war
