Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am.

Okay class, before you sit, please pick up some pieces of (Students will do so)
trash and arrange your chairs properly.

Thank you, please be seated.

How are you today? We’re doing fine ma’am.

Alright, that’s very good to hear.

Let’s check your attendance and do the count off, ready… The students will do the count off
That’s great, everyone is present!

I have given you an assignment last time, so please pass it Yes, ma’am

Guess the Gibberish!
Okay before we proceed, let me see if you still recall Okay ma’am
our previous lesson. I have here the gibberish words. All
you have to do is to guess the correct term/s for each
item. Isaac Newton

“Let’s Watch This!”
(The teacher will show a short video clip to the
students.)

Since you don’t have anymore questions, let’s have a

video presentation. Do you like to watch the video? Yes, ma’am
All right, let’s watch this.

(After the video presentation) What have you seen from A motorcycle and a car
the video

Yes, we have seen a motorcycle and a car from the video. They are having a race ma’am
What happen to them?

Okay we have seen also that they are having a race, which It’s the motorcycle
one runs faster?

Yes, it is the motorcycle. Now from that video, what do Our topic is all about acceleration ma’am
you think is our topic for today?

Correct! Very good! Our topic is about acceleration which

is known as Newton’s Second Law of Motion.

(Segway to present objectives) Okay who can read our Objectives

objectives? Yes, Charlyn! At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Explain Newton’s Second Law of Motion
b. Solve problems involving Newton’s Second Law of
Motion
c. Cite situations where Newton’s Second Law of
Motion is applied

Thank you, Charlyn. These are our goals for today’s lesson Lighter objects tend to accelerate more
class. Okay, now how can we explain the law of
acceleration?

Okay, you have the point Jina!

Basically, the Law of Acceleration states that:
-The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to
the magnitude of a net force, and follows the direction of
the net force, while it is inversely proportional to the mass
of an object.

Now, what are the variables you have seen from the
statement earlier? Yes Cyjie! Mass

Very good, what else? Mary Ann? Force

Correct! Other answers? Yes, Mark! Acceleration

Very well said! Now, how can we show the relationship of (Answers may vary)
these variables you have mentioned?

Okay, since acceleration is said to be directly proportional (Students listen attentively)

to the force magnitude and inversely proportional to the
mass, so α=F/m is the formula for acceleration.
Questions? None maa’am

How about the unit for these variables?

What is the unit for acceleration (α)? m/s2
Very good! How about for the unit of force (F)? N or kg∙m/s2
Correct answer! And for the unit of mass (m)? Kg
Very good! Do have any questions? None ma’am

Elaborate
Do you have any questions class? None ma’am

Okay, I will be the one to ask you. What does the Law of The acceleration of an object is directly proportional
Acceleration states? Yes, Charlyn! to the magnitude of a force, and follows the
direction of the net force, while it is inversely
proportional to the mass of an object.

Very good! Who can cite situations where the law of A baseball being hit by a bat
acceleration is applied? Cyjie?

Correct! Another? Yes Maechie! Riding a roller coaster

Very good!

Now, what is the importance of knowing Newton’s Second It is important to know the second law of motion to
Law of Motion? Yes, Vince! apply in real life, in order to achieve your dreams,
you need to exert more effort or force. Thus, the
more you persevere the more you will achieve
success.

Alright, very well said!

Generalization
The greater force exerted to an object, the greater is the
acceleration. However, when the mass is greater, the
greater is the force needed to accelerate an object.
Evaluate
Read and analyze the following questions/situations. Write only the letter of the correct answer.

1. Choose from the situations where the Second Law of Motion is applied?
a. recoil of a gun
b. landing of an aircraft
c. kicking a ball, and the ball rolling in direction of the force

2. It states that “the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, and
follows the direction of the net force while it is inversely proportional to the mass of an object”
a. Newton’s 1st Law of Motion
b. Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
c. Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion

3. Racing cars is an example of what law of motion?

a. law of acceleration
b. law of inertia
c. law of interaction
4. Which of the following scenarios can we apply the law of acceleration?
a. pulling an elastic band
b. pushing a car and a truck
c. you tend to move forward when a sudden break is applied

5. Find the acceleration of an object with mass of 50 kg and force of 1000 N.
