Laboratory Exercises No. 6

OPERATION OF WALK BEHIND TRANSPLANTER

NAME: JACOBO, JONEL B. RATING: _____________

SECTION: BAT 3A DATE: _______________

I. INTRODUCTION

The walk-behind rice transplanter is designed for transplanting rice seedlings into
a puddled and levelled field. It is recommended for small to medium sizes of farms. This
requires less time than the manual transplanting and minimizes the drudgery and cost
of rice transplanting. A rice transplanter in the Philippines is a special machine that is
used to replant rice seedlings in the paddy field. The most important component is the
transplanter device, where the seedling tray is found.

This allows a farmer to load a mat-type rice nursery that can be automatically
picked up and transplanted on the soil by the equipment. This way, a row of seedlings
can be planted in one pass. All a worker needs to do is to maneuver the machine
properly throughout the field.

II. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to learn and
perform actual operation of four-wheel tractor with implement.

III. METHODOLOGY

1. Make a research on the step-by-step procedure on how to operate the walk

behind transplanter.
2. Provide an illustration of the step-by-step process by means of an image.

IV. ILLUSTRATIONS

◆ Start the engine in the following orders: check whether there is full of oil in the engine;
open the oil circuit and then open the throttle; check the whether the clutch is separate
and the gear shift level is in the neutral position; start the engine.
◆ Before planting the rice seedlings, a test should be made to check whether the
machine can transplanter the rice according to the rice transplanting techniques.
◆ Leave enough working space for the transplanter to avoid the collision of the paddy
transplanter and the ridge of the paddy field.
◆ Supply the seedlings in the seedling box timely and do not transplanter the seedlings
when the machine is across the ridge of the field.
◆ Clean the sundries in the transplanter timely.
◆ Don’t touch any rotating part during rice planting.
◆ Stop the machine if it is abnormal during operation and find out the problems and
adjust it.
◆ If the paddy transplanter machine is stuck in the paddy field, do not pull out the
machine by force.

V. CONCLUSIONS

Fast and efficient (1–2 ha/d), uses less labor and ensures timely planting. Reduces stress, work
load, and health risks. Ensures uniform spacing and plant density. Seedlings recover fast, tiller
vigorously, and mature uniformly. A rice transplanter in the Philippines is a special machine that
is used to replant rice seedlings in the paddy field. The most important component is the
transplanter device, where the seedling tray is found.
The technical specifications of this machine vary with different models; however, common
features include adjustment options in plant-to-plant spacing, number of seedlings/hill, and
planting depth.
