Shattered Trust

It was one afternoon, Sooha had just finished class and was headed back to her dorm
room, when she heard a familiar voice. “Sooha wait up!”, Heli yelled trying to catch his breath.
“Woah, Heli slow down. What’s the rush?”, Sooha said stopping. “We’re hosting a party
tomorrow, wanna come?”, Heli asked excitedly. “Sure, whose birthday is it?”, Sooha said while
taking a look at the invitation. Heli hesitated whether to tell her the truth or not, but eventually
said, “Well, its more like an anniversary party. You see, none of us know our birthdays and we
basically grew up with each other.”, Heli explained. Sooha paused for a moment and connected
the dots. “So that means, tomorrow is…”, slowly realizing, Heli confirms her thought. “The day
we ran away from the orphanage.”

“No! Shion that goes on the left!”, Noa yelled franticlly. “Ask your shadow friends to do
it then! Its hard hanging lights while you’re upside down!”, Shion replied dangling from the
ceiling. “You two stop bickering! You’re acting like childs. Jakah, please help them.”, Jaan said.
“Do you think Sooha would come?”, Jino asked nervously. “Of course, she won’t come, she
hates us.”, Solon said coldy. “She hates vampires, not us Solon.”, Jaan replied. “Well, we so
happen to be vampires, so she hates us.”, Solon grumpily said. “If Sooha finds out we’re
vampires, we’re sacrificing you first Solon.”, Shion replied, still trying to hang the lights. Heli
buts in with a reassuring tone, “Calm down you two, she’ll come. I trust her.”

“Wow, their house is pretty close to the academy.”, Sooha thought, walking to the
address on the invitation. “Sooha, you came!”, Shion exclaimed, running for a hug. “Of course, I
would! Where are the others?”, Sooha asked excitedly. “They’re inside, come in.” Sooha walks
in with her eyes wide open. Every single corner of their house was decorated. “How long did it
take you guys to decorate this place?”, Sooha said shocked at the scale. “Didn’t take that long
actually.”, Jino said walking over to her with the others following from behind. “Guys! Happy
birthday! I got you a gift.” Sooha said, handing them the present. “Thanks, what is it?”, Jakah
asked curiously. “it’s a vampire repellant kit! To protect yourselves.”, Sooha said proudly. “Oh,
thanks a lot, we’ll make sure to us it.”, Heli said awkwardly. “Great, now let’s get this party
started!”

It was late in the evening. Everyone had left except for Sooha. “Are you guys sure you
don’t want me to help you clean up? This place is quite big.”, Sooha asked before leaving.
“We’ll be just fine, cleaning up will be a piece of cake.”, Heli said confidently. “Alright if you say
so. Bye guys.”

“This has been the most fun I’ve had since… Chris died.”, Sooha said. The forest
surrounding the academy had gone dark. Only a dim path can be seen. Feeling the evening
breeze, Sooha thought of every memory she had with Chris. Her first friend, who trusted her,
who was there for her when no one were. After a few minutes, she realizes she had left her
phone back at the party. So, she retraced her steps and headed back to the boy’s house.

“Um, guys? May I come in? I accidentally left my… phone… here.”, Sooha stops on her
tracks and looks around shocked. The place was a mess. But, from the corner of her eye, she
spots a door with lights flickering from under it. “Guys… are you oka— “, shocked at the sight in
front of her. She sees the boys, covered with blood and fangs showing. The same 7 boys whom
she met on her first day at the academy. The boys who made her feel like she belonged. Those
same boys, who had turn into the one thing she hated the most.

“Sooha… What are…”, Noa stuttered. “No, this cant be… I… trusted you.”, Sooha said on
the verge of crying. “Sooha, please! We can explain!”, Heli begged. “What is there to explain?!
You guys are vampires! I trusted you! Just… stay away from me.”, Sooha yelled, running out of
the house. Solon tried going after her but was stopped. “Let her be, Solon. We’ll scare her even
more.”, Heli sighed, grabbing Solon’s arm. “And let her tell the whole school?! Do you want us
to run away again?!”, Solon shouted back. “She wouldn’t do that! I know she wont. I’ve broken
her trust in me, but I haven’t broken my trust in her.”
