Q06(A). It takes 3 liters of paint to cover an area of 24 square meters. What
percentage increase in the quantity of paint would be required to cover an area of
50.4 square meters?

Solution:

In order to find the percentage increase, firstly find the total amount of paint that
will be used to cover an area of 50.4 square meters

3 liter : x liter :: 24 m2 : 50.4 m2 Method 02: It is dierectly proportion

𝑥1 𝑦1 3 24
3 / x = 24 m2 / 50.4 m2 = -----→ =
𝑥2 𝑦2 𝑥 50.4

3 × 50.4 m2 = x × 24 m2 𝟑 × 𝟓𝟎.𝟒
24 × x= 3 ×50.4 ---→ x =
𝟐𝟒
151.2 / 24 = x
X = 6.3
6.3 = x

Hence, 6.3 liters of paint are required. Now, we need to find what percentage
increase in 3 is 6.3?

(C). Tahir started a business with a capital of Rs. 15,000. After 5 months Umar also
joined him with an investment of Rs. 30,000. At the start of 9th month, Usman
joined them by investing Rs. 45,000. At the end of the year they earned a profit of
Rs. 406,000. Find the share of each one.
Solution:

Tahir’s investment for 12 months = Rs.15000

Tahir’s effective investment for 1 month = Rs.15000 ×12

= Rs. 180,000

Umar’s investment for 7 months = Rs.30,000

Tahir’s effective investment for 1 month = Rs.30,000 ×7

= Rs. 210,000

Usman’s investment for 4 months = Rs.45,000

Tahir’s effective investment for 1 month = Rs.45,000 ×4

= Rs. 180,000

RATIO OF CAPITALS

Tahir : Umar : Usman

180,000 : 210,000 : 180,000

18 : 21 : 18

6 : 7 : 6

SUM OF RATIOS = 6 + 7 + 6 = 19

Profit earned in a year = Rs.406,000

Q.7 The breakdown of average monthly expenditure for a family is given in the
following Figure:

A). Calculate from the figure what percentage of the family’s

expenditure is on ‘other’?

(B). Approximately what fraction of the

family’s monthly expenditure do’
‘utilities’, ‘rent’ and ‘food’ represent?

(C).If the family spends Rs.11600 on

utilities, how much is the family’s
total expenditure?

(D).‘Other’ expenditure comprises savings,

entertainment and luxury items, which
are spent in the ratio 3 : 4 : 1. Calculate
how much the family saves each month
if monthly income is Rs.24,000.

Solution:7(A) As a figure

Items Percentage
Food 15%
Utilities 8%
Local Tax 10%
Rent 26%
Childcare 15%
Travel 10%
Sum of all these 84%

SO Family’s Expenditure on other is

= 100% –84% = 16%
