• The participants/teams have to submit solution of problem statement for registered


technical challenges only.

• If they submit solution for unregistered technical challenges, it will not be considered.

Technical Challenge: TECH TALK

The tech talk will be delivered by industry/institute experts on following topics subjects during AUTOSPARX-
2021 event:

• Advance Automotive Emissions


• Autonomous and Connected Vehicle
• Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
• Automotive Safety and Crash

All registered students are eligible to attend tech talk on scheduled date during event. The link will be shared
in advance.

Technical Challenge: AUTO QUIZ
The AUTO Quiz will be conducted online during AUTOSPARX-2021 event. It will be MCQ type based on following automotive
engineering topics:
• Automotive Engine & Emissions
• Alternate Powertrain Technologies
• Advance Transmission & Driveline Systems
• Hybrid Electric Vehicles
• Smart, Autonomous and Connected Vehicle
• Vehicle Dynamic Systems (including steering, suspension, brakes etc.)
• Light Weight/Hybrid Material for Automotive Application
• Automotive Electrical & Electronics
• Automotive Noise, Vibration and Harshness
• Automotive Safety Systems

Evaluation Process:
• The registered individual student to attempt and submit AUTO QUIZ at given specific type only during event. The link will be
released just before scheduled time only. The submission will not be considered after due time.
• The top three winners will be declared during valedictory function of AUTOSPARX-2021 event .
• The evaluators reserve the right to select or reject any submission without assigning any reasons whatsoever and without thereby
incurring any liability to the participant(s) whatsoever.

Technical Challenge: AUTOMOTIVE STYLING
Problem Statement:
Q. An automotive vehicle manufacturer is planning to develop a sporty passenger car for young generation. Present free hand styling/design of
vehicle by identifying at least 5 distinct and essential factors that will make it relevant in terms of function and aesthetic with following consideration:
• Vehicle dimension as per standard (refer AIS).
• 5 seater (including driver)
• Max Speed: 150 kmph
• Provision of Aerodynamic add-on devices
• All four view of vehicle (front, top, side and Isometric views)
• Also explain uniqueness of design and suitable materials used in vehicle body manufacturing in one paragraph.
Evaluation criteria: Consideration of user-centric design, innovation, uniqueness, technical, aesthetic, quality, originality, material selection, feasibility
and effectiveness of design solution. Design sheet must have student/team names with signatures at right side of bottom.

Submission & Evaluation Process:


• The registered student/team has to submit vehicle sketch in given poster format only.
• The team leader has to submit solution of given technical challenges (other than Auto Quiz) as per given poster format along with team details (as

• The submission of technical challenges solution will not be considered after due date.
• All the submitted applications will be evaluated by jury members as per evaluation criteria.
• The top three design will be asked to give presentation during AUTSPARX-2021 event.

Technical Challenge: INNOVATIVE IDEAS
The registered student/team has select any one automotive engineering theme from given below:
• Advanced Automotive Engine Technologies
• Advanced Automotive Emissions Control Techniques
• Alternate Powertrain Technologies
• Advance Transmission & Driveline Systems
• Hybrid Electric Vehicles
• Smart, Autonomous and Connected Vehicle
• Vehicle Dynamic Systems (including steering, suspension, brakes etc.)
• Light Weight/Hybrid Material for Automotive Application
• Automotive Electrical & Electronics
• Automotive Safety Systems

The innovative idea should cover details such as need, objective, methodology, technical & non-technical, uniqueness, outcome,
benefits, limitation and practical feasibility etc.
Evaluation Process:
• The registered student/team leader has to submit innovative idea as per given poster format only along with team details (as per

be considered after due date.
• All the submitted posters will be evaluated by jury members as per evaluation criteria.
• The top three posters will be asked to give presentation during AUTSPARX-2021 event.

incurring any liability to the participant(s) whatsoever.

Technical Challenge: AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE SIMULATION
Problem Statement:
Simulation of autonomous vehicle to evaluate obstacle detection and longitudinal and lateral control modules. The
given problem statement is a multi-facted solution for autonomous vehicle simulation covering perception, path
planning and control. The details of the operational design domain are given below:

1) City Driving conditions as test cases.


2) Highway driving conditions as test cases.

Perception simulations:
1) City driving with traffic signals, vehicles on the road and multiple turns. Detection of scenarios.
2) Depth estimation of obstacle.

Path planning and control:


1) Highway driving with higher vehicle cruising speed and sharp turnings.
2) Ability to travel from point A to B using bicycle model- Goto goal on self-defined track (Check simulations for A*,
RRT and Dijkstra using MATLAB).

Technical Challenge: AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE SIMULATION

Important points to be considered while developing the solution are as below:


• The roads should be comprising of urban, semi-urban and rural backdrop.
• The solution must be affordable cost of running, manufacturability, easy of implementation and easy
maintenance.
• The team would like to explore some tools such as Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Algorithms validation, etc.
• The driving scenarios can be developed using MATLAB or ANSYS.
• The designed model can be simulated using the programming tools such as MATLAB, Carla, Python, Ansys
VRXperience etc. You may use any programming tools and operating systems.
• The solution representation can be made using presentation, pictures, videos, graphs and charts.

Expected Outcome:
• 1) Obstacle detection and depth estimation.
• 2) Scenario estimation and driving condition evaluation.
• 3) Path planning and control algorithm evaluation on self determined tracks and conditions.

Technical Challenge: VAHAAN HACKATHON
Problem Statement 1:
Design a suspension system for a two wheeler, with the help of all modern techniques and tools, to provide maximum
comfort, available with affordable cost. The design should be suitable for Indian driving and road conditions keeping in mind
dense traffic scenario.
Important points to be considered while designing the suspension system are:
• Consider the parameters keeping in mind your experience as a regular traveler on two wheelers and driving a vehicle in
any of Indian metro cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, etc.
• The limit of the vehicle is to carry maximum two persons.
• The maximum speed limit is 100 Km/Hr. and acceleration performance similar to bike available in current Indian two
wheeler market.
• The tools can be used are IOT, Machine learning, Modern methods of automotive suspension, etc.
• Manufacturability, affordable cost of running and manufacturing and easy maintenance.
• The designed model can be simulated similar software's like MATLAB, Octave, Python programming, ANSYS, etc.
Expected Outcome:
• Specifications of final design of the product
• Performance of the product with the help of various graphs, diagrams, simulation results, etc. in terms of quality of ride
comfort, vibration transmissibility, vehicle dynamics parameters, resonance effect, response to various road profiles and
uneven road conditions (input as irregular or random vibrations), etc.

Problem Statement 2:
Design a reverse parallel parking system for a four-wheeler, with the help of standard techniques and tools. The design
should be suitable for Indian driving and road conditions keeping in mind dense traffic scenario and limited parking space
available on the roads/societies.
Important points to be considered while designing the reverse parallel parking system are as below:
• The design would include your typical experiences while observing yourself and others do the maneuver in a typical city
condition.
• The choice of the vehicle used would be the most often and widely segment.
• The maneuver should also try to address the atypical scenarios in addition to the standard scenarios.
• The team would like to explore some tools such as IOT, Machine learning, Modern methods, etc.
• Manufacturability, affordable cost of running and manufacturing and easy maintenance.
• The designed model can be simulated using the programming tools such as MATLAB, Octave, Python, etc. You may use any
programming tools and operating systems.
Expected Outcome:
• Specifications of final design of the product
• Performance of the product with the help of various graphs, diagrams, simulation results, etc. in terms of time to
completion, ability to maneuver into the space and out after maneuver is done, number of attempts (back-and-forth
movement).

Problem Statement 3:
Develop an either GUI or Code on any software platform, which can be used to find Powertrain Sizing of Electric Vehicle by providing
vehicle parameters and performance & range requirement based on any drive cycle. Drive Cycle data or file will be also used as an
input
Important points to be considered while designing Tool for Electric Vehicle Powertrain Sizing are as below:
• The choice of the vehicle used would be the most often and widely segment.
• The vehicle parameters and performance & range requirement can be given by code or GUI
• Drive Cycle data would be also used as an input
• Based on the inputs & drive cycle, output should be Powertrain Sizing
• The team would like to explore some tools such as C/C++ language, Matlab/Simulink, Python, php, etc.
• You may use any programming tools and operating systems. Results will be validated based on any commercialized Electric
Vehicle.
Expected Outcome:
• Specifications of final design of the product
• Performance of the product with the help of various graphs, diagrams, simulation results, etc. in terms of time to completion,
ability to maneuver into the space and out after maneuver is done, number of attempts (back-and-forth movement).
• Motor Specifications (Motor rated power, Motor peak power Motor Size and Motor Weight)
• Battery Specifications ( Battery Capacity, Battery Weight & Size)
• Transmission gears & ratio.

Problem Statement 4:
Develop an solution for traffic congestion being caused by number of vehicle increasing at high rate.
Important points to be considered while developing the solution are as below:
• All categories of vehicle must be considered.
• Consider metropolitan city. (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc.)
• Consider a minimum of 4 roads joining at single traffic signal.
• Consider movement of ambulance in huge traffic roads.
• The solution must be affordable cost of running, manufacturability, easy of implementation and easy maintenance.
• The team would like to explore some tools such as IOT, Machine learning, Modern methods, etc
• The designed model can be simulated using the programming tools such as MATLAB, Octave, Python, etc. You may use any
programming tools and operating systems.
• The solution representation can be made using hand drawing, pictures, graphs and charts.
Expected Outcome:
• Specifications of final design of the product
• Representation of solution with the help of various graphs, diagrams, simulation results, etc. in terms of easiness to travel,
waiting time at traffic signals, ambulance movement and pollution.

Problem Statement 5:
Optimization of perception module for Autonomous Driving under harsh environment conditions like fog, rain and lack of
light.
Important points to be considered while developing the solution are as below:
• The roads should be comprising of urban, semi-urban and rural backdrop.
• The solution must be affordable cost of running, manufacturability, easy of implementation and easy maintenance.
• The team would like to explore some tools such as Computer Vision, Deep Learning, etc
• The designed model can be simulated using the programming tools such as MATLAB, Carla, Python, Ansys VRXperience etc.
• You may use any programming tools and operating systems.
• The solution representation can be made using presentation, pictures, videos, graphs and charts.

Expected Outcome:
• Specifications of final design of the product
• Representation of solution with the help of various graphs, diagrams, simulation results, etc. in terms of easiness to travel,
