Lab 1 Measurement and Unit
ID NUMBER: A00023244
LAB TITLE:
(LAB 1)
ARABI 2
OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this experiment is to record the experimental results while focusing particular
attention to the units and significant figures, as well as to practice and understand how to use
various measuring tools of science, including: meter-rule, vernier calipers, beam balance, etc.
THEORY:
o 1m = 100cm
o 1cm = 10mm
o 1cm = 0.01m
o Area, A = L x W
o 1cm = 10mm
o 1m = 100cm
o 1cm = 0.01m
o Area, A =2LW + 2LH + 2WH
o Volume, V =L x W x H
o Density, P = Mass/Volume
o 1cm = 10mm
o 1m = 100cm
o 1cm = 0.01m
o Area, A = 2(pi r2) + 2 pi x r x H
o Volume, V = pi x r2 x H
ARABI 3
o Density, P = Mass/Volume
APPARATUS:
o Meter rule
o Lab table
o Cylindrical block
o Rectangular block
o Vernier caliper
o Triple beam balance
PROCEDURE:
1. Lab Table: I measured the lab table's length and width using the meter rule in
centimetres, converted the results to m and mm, and then calculated the table's area in m2,
cm2, and mm2. I then inputted the information in the data table.
2. Rectangular Block: Here, I measured a rectangular block's size with a ruler and
converted the measurement from centimetres to meters and millimetres. I then used a
beam balance to measure the mass of the rectangular block in grams, converted it to
kilograms, and estimated the surface area in m2, cm2, and mm2. I also calculated the
volume. In the data table, I recorded all the information (2). Finally, I determined the
density and noted it.
3. Cylindrical Block: I measured a cylindrical block's diameter and height in cm, m, and
mm using a Vernier caliper. I then used a beam balance to measure the mass of the
cylindrical block, computed the volume and surface area, and finally determined the
density. I kept a record of everything in a data table (3).
PRECAUTIONS:
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, this experiment revolved on the numerous measurement instruments and the
computations that were performed after each measurement. We were able to determine the
diameter, height, area, mass, surface area, radius, volume, and density using these
measuring tools and equations.
