Research: Glossary Template: Types of Aerobic Dance

A glossary is a list of terms (and their definitions) limited to a specific subject or

field. Write a glossary of specialized terms of aerobic dances, provide a definition each
and cite your sources using the APA format. Use your library or the Internet to
accomplish the glossary template chart.

Type of Definition
Aerobic
Dance
1. Jazzercise Jazzercise is a pulse-pounding, beat-pumping, body-blasting fitness
program that gets you results…fast. It's a high intensity dance party that
fuses cardio, strength, Pilates, hip hop, yoga and kickboxing. Burn up to
800 calories per hour in any of our 60 minute classes.

2. Zumba Zumba is a form of aerobic dance exercise similar to Jazzercise; its

distinctive characteristic is its use of Latin American music and dance
rhythms to create a party-like atmosphere in class sessions. There are two
versions about the origin of the program's name: one version states that
Zumba comes from a Colombian slang word meaning “to buzz like a bee”
or “fast-moving” ; the second version is that it was chosen arbitrarily as a
brand name with a Latin American flavor.

3. Hip-Hop Hip-hop aerobics is a form of exercise that blends dance moves with
Aerobics strengthening exercises. Most of the time, this sort of aerobics is designed
to feel more like dancing than exercising. It is usually paired with fast-
tempo hip-hop music, and incorporates many of the moves common to the
dance style. The goal is not to learn routines or put on performances,
however. People participate in hip-hop aerobics in order to get a good
cardiovascular workout, and to tone muscles in the arms, legs, and
abdominal region.

4. Step Step aerobics, also known as bench aerobics and step training, is a form of
Aerobics
aerobic exercise that involves stepping on and off a small platform.

5. Aqua Aqua aerobics (also called water aerobics and aquafit) is a form of exercise
Dance which provides cardiovascular conditioning, increasing your pulse and your
Aerobics breathing rate. The term "aerobic" actually means "with oxygen". This
means that your breathing controls the amount of oxygen that reaches your
muscles to help them move and burn stored fuel. Aqua aerobics is similar
to a normal aerobics class, but since it's done in the water, it places less
strain on your joints.

6. Ballroom Ballroom dancing is a partnership dance where couples, using step-

Dancing patterns, move rhythmically, expressing the characteristics of music.
Ballroom dancing consists of two styles: the Smooth, or Standard, and the
Rhythm, or Latin. The Smooth, Standard style focuses on the elegance,
grace and fluidity of movement. Dancers rotate in a counter-clockwise
direction, moving around the entire floor. The couple is constantly moving
on the dance floor, transitioning from one place to the next in a fixed
pattern. The Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep are
danced in this manner.

7. Belly A traditional form of dance from the Middle East, characterized by

Dancing movements of the abdominal muscles. Belly dance or bellydance is a
Western-coined name for "solo, improvised dances based on torso
articulation" originating from the Middle East, especially raqs sharqi. Other
names which are sometimes used for the dance in English speaking
countries include Oriental Dance, Arabic dance. Belly dance takes many
different forms depending on the country and region, both in costume and
dance style, and new styles have evolved in the West as its popularity has
spread globally.

8. Break Free Break dancing, also called breaking and B-boying, energetic form of dance,
Dance fashioned and popularized by African Americans and Latinos, that includes
stylized footwork and athletic moves such as back spins or head spins.
Break dancing originated in New York City during the late 1960s and early
’70s, incorporating moves from a variety of sources, including martial arts
and gymnastics.

9. Pump It Up Pump It Up is a cool and exciting Aerobic Dance that has been designed by
Aerobic Deanne Berry. The workout lasts for an hour and fifteen minutes. You will
Dance start off with a warm up after which you will enter a 20 minutes dance
workout. It will get faster with time. In the end, there will be a nice cool
down time where you can stretch your body and feel refreshed.
