ABSTRACT
The project presents the use of correct soil moisture sensors which helps to ease out the pain
to monitor and keep records about the changes in soil moisture. Using the Raspberry Pi Pico
microcontroller with Light-Depended Resistor sensor, moisture sensor, and temperature sensor,
the temperature is measured and analyzed. The soil for a certain duration provides information
related to the moisture status of the soil. The Raspberry Pi will collect and process the data
received from the Sensors. When a threshold moisture level of the soil is reached, the water will
supply accordingly. This is essential because water must be provided to the plant at a particular
time for a good yield. This project is highly used for farmers, Nursery professionals by

INTRODUCTION
➢ Agriculture is the primary sector and backbone to the economy of India. Earlier the crop
yielding was very high because the ground water level high. In the present day, to reduce
the water consumption and increasing in the yield is a big challenge. Watering to the
field is called irrigation. Watering to the soil is mainly depend upon soil moisture and
temperature sensor values, if moisture content in the soil is less than the threshold, then
it indicates watering is required to the field.
➢ In the literature, few irrigation management systems are reported, which have some
limitations like, watering is done to the field without analysing the soil parameters, this
causes non uniform to the field, so it results in wastage of water and decrease in the
yield, Sometimes human intervention is also required. To overcome them, the farmer
needs an automatic irrigation system with advanced features like measuring the soil
parameters (soil moisture, soil temperature and humidity sensors, etc).
➢ For that we propose a Iot based smart irrigation system using Raspberry pi. The iot
based smart irrigation system means; farmer can monitor the sensor values and field
status with the help of iot. From the iot farmer can know the water pump status and
water level in the well. We can also solve those problems by using a Iot based smart
irrigation system. So the water is uniformly distributed to the field and helps to
increasing in the yield.

TOOLS
The proposed system makes use of microcontroller ATMEGA328P on Raspberry
pi platform and IOT which enables farmers to remotely monitor the status of water
level in the soil by knowing the sensor values thereby, making the farmers work
much easier as they can concentrate on other farm activities.
ADVANTAGES
➢ The system is not only provides comfort but also reduce energy, efficiency and
time saving. Whenever there is a change in temperature, humidity and current
status of rain of the surroundings these sensors senses the change in
temperature and humidity and gives an interrupt signal to the raspberry pi

➢ Smart Irrigation systems save water, time, and money. Studies show that up to 50%
of water usage for landscape irrigation can be saved with cloud-based Smart Irrigation
systems. As a result, Smart systems typically pay for themselves in water savings within
two years.

➢ User friendly.

➢ It provides more accuracy compare to humans.

APPLICATIONS
➢ Smart irrigation systems use sensors for real- tlme or historical data to inform
watering routines and modify watering schedules to improve efficiency.
➢ IOT and solenoid waves to Control the flow of water based on the moisture of the soil
and gives real time surveillance to the owners who stay far away from the farms.
CONCLUSION
➢ This automated irrigation system is easily controlled using a computer. It behave as
an intelligent switching system that detects the soil moisture level and irrigates the
plant if necessary. This will also save time and energy, as well as minimize energy
loss. With the use of sensors whose cost is low and with simple circuitry this
experiment aims in low cost solution, which can be bought even by a poor farmer
and it is also easy to implement.
➢ The smart irrigation system is suitable and cost effective for advance water resources for
agricultural production.
➢ The system would provide feedback control system which will monitor and control all the
activities of plant growth and irrigation system efficiently. If rain gun sensor can be
added so that when it rains there won’t be floods. Rain water harvesting can be done
and this harvested water can be used to irrigate fields. We can also include many more
water quality sensors that affect the crops.
