Physical education and high school sports are very beneficial during high school. I have
been physically active throughout high school and I can tell you that I feel more motivated right
from the start. Although some sports can be strenuous and staying active can be hard, being
healthy is the main key to having a healthy mindset and also being physically healthy.
Playing more than one sport can give teenagers more opportunities and can also help
them to make new friends. Playing multiple sports in high school gives students a higher chance
of success to go to college for a sport or maybe even professional if they work hard enough
(Maroon and Bailes). High school sports will have tons of scouts looking for new players every
year. Players that are scouted often receive scholarships, which gives more teenagers the ability
to attend college. Tens of millions of student-athletes play at the collegiate level and a little over
2,000 are professionals. If a teenager is an athlete playing multiple sports, it gives them more
practice and helps them with other sports (Maroon and Bailes). This helps teens find more
opportunities and experiences if they have a passion for a sport. High school sports can help you
find strengths with new team members and build relationships with them (Playing more than).
Additionally, being on a team will help teens connect with one another, strengthening their
High school sports positively impacts teenagers' social lives as well. High school sports
can also stop hazing problems for kids that are being bullied (Physical Education). Hazing
incidents can be very serious and being involved with physical activity can help you get past
that. Also, high school sports can help teens build self-worth by using their abilities on the field
(Physical Education). This helps teenagers build self-awareness and motivates teens to build
their self-worth. In addition, High School coaches teach younger kids that are playing sports to
be good role models for what they represent on and off the field (Maroon and Bailes). If a teen is
a better role model for themselves and for others, it helps to build character and make them
High school sports can be more effective than most think. There has been an increase in
overweight children in the U.S. and one of the reasons is the lack of physical education
(Athletics in Schools). Schools in certain states have been lacking in physical education and have
an increase in overweight children. Another reason being in shape benefits teens, is being
physically active can help in heavy-duty jobs or needed to be mobile (athletic in schools). Not
everyone wants to participate in a sport after high school but physical activity can help with
simple jobs if needed. Playing a sport in high school will help teens avoid minor and life-risking
health problems (Maroon and Bailes). Sports keep teenagers active and reduce the risk of any
In conclusion, physical education and high school sports are very beneficial during high
school. In addition, knowing the benefits of high school sports is very helpful because it teaches
students how to be a role model for themselves and others, help students stay physically and
mentally healthy, and make the high school experience more enjoyable.
