A Short Review of the Movie “Lord of the Flies”

I. Introduction
In the beginning of the movie, we can already see that there are people drowning. I think the purpose of
starting the movie this way is so that the viewers will get confused and be intrigued in what will happen
next. After the credits were shown, we can see that they got washed away to a deserted island and all of
them are young in age along with their injured captain.

II. Plot Summary

Fighting for survival, the kids tried living in the deserted island led by Ralph which was decided by an
election. All of the work were splited accordingly. One day, a helicopter flew by the island and they had
high hopes that they will be saved. Unfortunately, the fire wasn’t lit so they weren’t be able to get noticed
by them. This caused trouble with Ralph and Jack’s group that lead to chaos. As the days goes by, Jack’s
group became more violent. Hunting not only pigs, but also other animals. They also went a far length
such as hurting and killing other people.

III. Description
Lord of the Flies is a Drama/Adventure movie in the 1990’s which was directed by Harry Hook. Its length
is 1 hour and 30 mins and tells the story about kids who got stranded in an island and we can see all of
their adventures throughout the movie.

IV. Analysis
The movie was started with a problem, showing that many people are drowning because of a plane crash.
This way of starting the movie is a great way to make the viewers confused and be intrigued on what the
next scene will contain.
In the ending of the movie also when they were found by the soldiers, it wasn’t shown what happened
next. That way of ending the movie is called as Open Ending which is leaving for the audience’s
imagination on what will happen next.
V. Conclusion and Evaluation
Piggy was killed by a boulder that was thrown at him by Jack’s group members, leaving Ralph on his
own. Still standing for his own beliefs, Ralph convinced the twins to do the right thing and in the end of
the movie, we can clearly see that they were found by the military.
We strongly believe that this movie is a battle of morals. Whether we believe what is wrong or right can
greatly affect our future. Standing up to what we think is right even though in the end we will be left
alone is never a bad thing. We should never let other people decide for us and make us a slave of their
own beliefs. This movie is recommended for teenagers since we make a lot of decisions we don’t think
carefully in our adolescence period.
