ALFONSO “ATOM” TOMAS
 Alfonso Tomas Pagaduan Araullo or also known as “Atom
Araullo” is a Filipino journalist, TV anchor, and documentarist.
Araullo was appointed a national Goodwill Ambassador for the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees after visiting displaced
families in Mindanao, Bangladesh, and Jordan.
He is also an advocate of environmental conservation, particularly in
maritime areas. On November 17, 2017, he was honored with a star
on the Eastwood City Walk of Fame.
Atom Araullo has won numerous nominations and awards over his
career. Some of them include the 22nd PMPC Star Awards for TV in
2008, the 27th PMPC Star Awards for TV in 2013, the Platinum
Stallion Media Awards in 2015, the Golden Laurel: Lycean Choice
Alfonso Tomas “Atom” Media Awards in 2016, and many others.

Atom Araullo, the youngest child and only son of Miguel and Carol
October 12, 1982 - Present Araullo, was born on October 12, 1982. He has an older sister,
Alessandra Araullo-Gonazales, who is also a triathlete. As the son of
an activist family, Atom was exposed to the country's political struggle at a young age. His parents
introduced him to sports and theatrical arts during his primary school years. As a result, he appeared in
several plays and competed in various triathlons.
He finished elementary school at Ateneo De Manila University and high school at Philippine Science High
School Main Campus. Araullo graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor
of Science in applied physics. He joined the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and served as chair of the
Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights - UP (STAND-UP). He also received the most
votes as a Councilor in the 2003 UP Diliman University Student Council elections.
Araullo was a member of Probe Productions, Inc.'s 5 and Up throughout his childhood. He also hosted the
Breakfast show on Studio 23, The National Quiz Bee, Kabataan Xpress, Basta Sports, and Kalye: Mga
Kwento ng Lansangan together with Anthony Taberna and Sol Aragones. Araullo began his career in news
reporting with GMA Network, where he appeared in the "ATOMic Sports" part of 24 Oras. In 2005, he
joined ABS-CBN. He was the host of Red Alert and Umagang Kay Ganda. In late August 2016, Araullo
acknowledged his retirement as an ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs news reporter, specifically from
his reportorial duties on TV Patrol, Bandila, and the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC). He explained that
he wanted to explore opportunities and pursue other interests, debunking the rumor that he opted for
resignation because of his strong opinions. Araullo resigned from ABS-CBN in September 2017. That same
month, he returned to GMA Network, where he focused on documentaries such as Philippine Seas (2017)
and The Atom Araullo Specials (2018-present). The Atom Araulo Specials episode "Munting Bisig" got a
silver prize in the human concerns and social issues category at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV
Awards. The episode also won best Asian documentary at the Asia Contents Awards and best social issues
at the New York Festivals TV and Film Awards 2022. In 2018, Araullo made his acting debut as the lead
in Mike De Leon's noir crime thriller film Citizen Jake, playing the son of corrupt senator-turned-citizen
journalist Jacobo "Jake" Herrera Jr.
