● The class culminates in a digital media project that incorporates what
you have learned over the semester

● You will synthesize all of the information you've learned this semester
into a long-form multimedia-rich piece of journalism, a podcast
episode:

○ Writing
○ Research
○ Music
○ Audio recording and editing
○ Graphic design

● Write the script

● Record the episode

● Edit the audio and add music

● Host the episode

● Create cover art for the episode using Adobe CC Express

● Write show notes

Part 1: Podcast Script

● Purpose: You will write the script word-for-word for your final project,
Multimedia Project 15.1. You will synthesize all of the information you've
learned this semester into a long-form multimedia-rich piece of
journalism, a podcast episode.

● Task: Create a script for a 5-7 minute podcast episode. The script could
be anywhere between 600-1,050 words, depending on your talking
pace. Your podcast must contain information from at least three (3)
outside sources. It is important to cite those sources aloud (oral
citations when presenting the material and write them into your script.
Part 1: Podcast Script

● What to submit:

○ Podcast script draft to Digital Media Project 14.1: Podcast Script


Part 2: Anchor

● Record, edit, and host the podcast on Anchor

● Option #1: Record script using your browser or app

● Option #2: Record script using Quicktime, Garageband, Voice Memo


app (import file into Anchor)
Part 2: Anchor

● Create a free account on Anchor


○ confirm email before creating podcast!

● Record audio right from your browser

● Add audio transitions from the Anchor library

● Add an episode title and description

● Add podcast cover art (create using an Adobe CC Express template)


Part 2: Anchor

● Do not use Anchor as a place to host your show notes

● Your show notes will go on your Weebly portfolio

Part 3: Show Notes (Weebly)

● Your podcast episode’s show notes should contain the following, in this
order:

○ Episode title
○ Summary (around 100 words)
○ Simple outline of main points
○ List of your sources (bibliography)
○ Audio transcript

Submission

● Create a new page on your Weebly portfolio called Podcast

● Embed the podcast onto the page

● Add the show notes

● Copy the page URL

● Submit the link to your podcast for grading to Multimedia Project 15.1
Submission

● Note: Sometimes Anchor can take 12-24 hours to approve a podcast


episode

● If this happens to you, don’t panic

● You can still embed the link to the podcast on your Weebly and I’ll be
able to listen to it when it’s ready

Podcast Script

● You need to cite those sources aloud when presenting the material and

Topic Selection

● You can choose to complete either an informative podcast or a


persuasive podcast

● If you are informing the listener about your topic, think of yourself as a
journalist giving an objective view

● If you are persuading the audience, think of yourself as a journalistic


commentator (you can bring your own opinion into a persuasive
podcast)
Informative Topics

● A feature - Feature writing provides scope, depth, and interpretation of


trends, events, topics, or people. Features should offer a previously
unseen perspective on an event, issue, or person.

○ Joel Poinsett, Greenville native and namesake of the everyone’s favorite


holiday flower
○ Headliners for Coachella
○ How did TikTok get so popular?
Informative Topics

● An investigative piece – Investigative storytelling aims to uncover the


truth about a particular subject, person, or event.

○ Is AU becoming less safe because of recent crimes on and near campus?

○ Is human trafficking on the rise in the Upstate?

○ Russia-Ukraine war
Persuasive Topics
● An opinion piece - Opinion journalism reports on a topic using
subjective ideas rather than objective facts

● You will report a story from your own perspective, including your own
thoughts and biases

○ Speculate where the next industry where #MeToo will blow up

○ Speculate who is going to the Final Four

○ Why the Prosperity Gospel ruined American Christianity


Podcast Script

● Write a script for your podcast using one of the following templates:
Podcast Script Template 3 Acts (for storytelling) or Podcast Script
Template 3 Main Points

● Write the script using complete sentences since you will be reading it
word-for-word in the recording

● You need a title for your podcast "show"

● You need a title for the podcast "episode"


Podcast Script

● Use oral citations AND in-text citations (double the work but covers all
sources you used)

● Include a list of Works Cited for the sources you used (use APA Style
with in-text citations)

● Your copy needs to be free of spelling mistakes and grammar errors and
in near-perfect AP Style
