VIRTUAL ENGLISH 5-6

CLASS PROJECT
• BOOK: Tales of mystery and imagination by Edgar Allan Poe
• You will receive the text in a further email.
• This book includes five stories which you are going to read to develop the class
project.
• The deliveries of the project will be divided in three parts, two preliminary and a
final delivery.
• The Project will be gradually developed and graded through the semester and will
be worth 20% of the final grade of the course.
• You should use your creativity and knowledge of English to develop the Project.
• You can work in couples or groups of maximum three people, the only requirement is
that the voices of all the members of the group must be included in the three
deliveries.
STEPS TO DEVELOP THE PROJECT
FIRST DELIVERY:

You should make a short video of 3-4 minutes (no longer than that) and post it on Youtube. The video
must be a narration with your voice and it can include yourself, but it is more advisable to use pictures
and text, you can do it with a Powerpoint with some information that you will show while you speak.
You can make the video with any tools you want, I recommend SCREENCAST, it is an easy tool that you can
use to make it and to upload it directly on youtube.
The day of the delivery you must send to my email the youtube link where I can watch the video .
• The first delivery of the project is due on Wednesday August 29th and it should include the following
elements:
1. A short biographical reference of the author: Edgar Allan Poe
2. A short review of the first two stories read (The fall of the house of Usher and The black cat), telling
what are the events that take place in each and some information about the characters.
SECOND DELIVERY:
You should make a short video of 3-4 minutes (no longer than that) and post it on Youtube. The video
must be a narration with your voice and it can include yourself, but it is more advisable to use
pictures and text, you can do it with a Powerpoint with some information that you will show while

The day of the second delivery you must send me the Youtube link where I can watch the video .

The second delivery of the Project will be on Wednesday september 26th and it should include the
following elements:
A short review of the last three stories you read (The masque of the Red Death, William Wilson and
The tell tale heart ) telling what are the events that take place in each and some information about
the characters.
FINAL DELIVERY:
• The final delivery date of the Project will be on Wednesday October 24th.
• The final delivery will be a video of 5 to 8 minutes with text and pictures, you can do it through a
PowerPoint presentation in which you will speak and show the final product of the book analysis (a
book review) by including:
1. A short biographical reference of the author including his life, facts about his writing career and a
general overview of the topics the writer included in his works.
2. A complete review of two of the stories you read which you considered the most interesting and
for each include:
a. The plot ( could be a summarized version of the story with pictures and text).
b. The list of characters with a short description.
c. An analysis of the major theme of the story.
d. An analysis of the different conflicts presented inside of the story.
e. Your personal point of view regarding the stories and the author's style.
REMEMBER

• If the project is developed in groups all the voices of members of the


group should be heard in the video. In this video you can use any kind of
software, your faces don´t necessarily have to appear in it, unless you
want it, nevertheless, all the members of the group must be part of the
final product, each member must develop a segment.
GRADING CRITERIA
• THE FIRST TWO DELIVERIES WILL BE WORTH 30% EACH
• THE FINAL DELIVERY WILL BE WORTH 40%
THE ELEMENTS EVALUATED IN EACH DELIVERY WILL BE:
• Structure: refers to the coherent development of the elements requested to be included in the
project, the connection of ideas and proper progress of the information included in the slides and
the video.

• Use of English: refers to the language components: grammar, spelling, structures, etc.

• Content: refers to the ideas presented in the project and their connection with the text. They must
be linked to the topics of the story, the analysis must be coherent and possible in the contexts of
the texts read.
I REALLY EXPECT TO SEE THE BEST PROJECTS DURING THIS SEMESTER, YOU ONLY

HAVE TO USE THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND EXPLORE YOUR POTENTIAL THROUGH

THE USE OF YOUR CREATIVITY AND THE LANGUAGE.
