Exercise 5: Kinematic Analysis using Adams

Learning Outcomes:

At end of the session, student will be able to

● Perform kinematic analysis of mechanisms

● Identify the features available in Adams to create links, assign the
connections
between the links, and giving initial conditions of the mechanism
● Simulation of mechanism to check the motions
● Read the results from Adams post processor
1. Find out the translational velocity of point C, angular velocity of
coupler and rocker when <DAB=600. Start the simulation with crank in
vertical position as shown in Figure and give a rotation of 900 with an
angular velocity 10.5 rad/s in clockwise direction.

Co-ordinates of different points in initial configuration A(0,0,0), B(0,50,0),

C(64.7,43.4,0), D(100,0,0). Width and thickness of link can be taken as 10 mm
each.
Things to do before coming to the lab class:

1. Review the method of velocity triangle to determine the velocity of

links of four bar mechanism
2. Time required for crank rotation of 900.
3. Do the hand calculations for the quantities required in the results table.

Results:
Attach the screen shots of Vc, ωBC, and ωCD from the solutions with time

2. Find out maximum acceleration of ram during the motion of crank and
slotted lever quick return mechanism.

Width and thickness of link can be taken as 10 mm each. Dimension of slider

can be taken as cube of 10 mm side. Initial configuration of crank, <AOP=
1200.
Take L2= 700 mm and L1= 400 mm

3. In the toggle mechanism shown in figure (a), the crank OA rotates at
210 rpm counter clockwise increasing at a rate of 60 rad/s2 ,
Determine
(i) Velocity of slider D and the angular velocity of link BD.
(ii) Acceleration of slider D and angular acceleration of link BD

Results:
