1. INTRODUCTION
Over the past few years, technology has really been invading the world
and greatly improving as time passes. Everyone uses it, from children and
teenagers to adults and elders. Technology is vital in today’s world and makes
everything easier.
Today, smart phone devices are very popular nowadays which provide a
one-stop solution for information management, mobile calls, email sending, and
even Internet access. At present, there are lots of problems, more specifically
when it comes to health, particularly when provisioning initial care for an injured
person. Lots of people are threatened to give first aid to a victim, most especially
if they don’t have a background of knowledge in it.
Figure 1.1 shows the manual process flow on how to conduct First
Aid if the person is having dehydration. First you will check whether he/she is
conscious. If not, call 911 immediately and if yes, search in google a first aid step
for dehydration. Second, if did you found a reliable answer after searching, you
will move the person into a cool shaded area and if not, keep on searching in
google, a first aid step for dehydration. Third, encourage them to sit down and
stop any physical activity. Fourth, check the vitals and perform turgor test and
etc. Fifth, have the person drink 2 quarts of water, juice, or sport drink to replace
fluids and minerals, in 2 to 4 hours. Lastly, seek medical attention if symptoms
get worse or do not improve within 24 hours.
Figure 1.2 shows the Input-Process Output Diagram of First Aid Mobile
Application. You will start in Input diagram and first you must login first. Second,
input the user details and also input the specific first aid procedure/details.
Process diagram, process the user account, first aid and also process the
injury/illness that you have input. Lastly, in the output diagram, it outputs the list
of injury/illness information and the first aid procedure information.

Future Researchers. The study can serve as their basis in doing their
own version of the project.
5. SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The application will be intended and will run only to all people who are
Android users. Also user can use the application for necessary use and to add
prevention. This application required analyzing and understanding; User should
search the specific injuries or illness before applying the said first aid.
6. DEFINITION OF TERMS
For better knowledge of the terms used in the study, given terms are
conceptually defined as follows:
First Aid- is emergency care or treatment given to an ill or injured person before
regular medical aid can be obtained.
This chapter contains a collection of related literature and research studies which
will serve as references of the researchers for greater insight and a deeper
comprehension of the study’s development.
In the study of Hussien, N.S., et al. 2020, “The Enhancement of First Aid
Treatment for Medical Facilities”, which they developed a mobile application that
provided the symptom of illness and list of treatment that can act as a guideline
for the user to properly perform the first aid treatment. Therefore, in this paper
they proposed on 2D animation to help visualize the step and to boost the
confidence level of the user by having the basic knowledge first aid treatment.
Besides, the proposed mobile application also able to tell the location of the
medical facilities as it is important to estimate the distance and the time taken for
medical units to apply the first aid treatment.
According to Lidasan, J.U., et al. 2019, There are various researches and
studies in diagnosing an illness, with the use of neural networks, fuzzy logic
and/or expert system. These studies diagnosed different diseases with different
platforms and techniques with different accuracy results. Therefore, Me Device is
an application system that uses a method that promises to optimize the accuracy
of the diagnosis of the disease associated with fever through Backpropagation
neural network and fuzzy expert algorithms and makes it available to mobile
users‟ specifically Android devices.
As mentioned by Dando, M.F.F., et al. 2019, First aid skills are highly
essential and a must-learn basic ability by everyone. Accidents can happen
anytime, anywhere, that is why first aid is needed. This study aims to develop a
game-based learning focusing and incorporating application and practices of first
aid for information dissemination of proper emergency first aid specific to minor
incidents. The application will educate and instruct the users on how to perform
proper first aid where it has an interaction between the user and application
through the application of game based learning approach with Intelligent
Predictive String Search Algorithm which used for checking the step by step
procedure in applying first aid.
This chapter will cover the detailed explanation of methodology that is used during
the projection which purposed on making this project in complete state and working
perfectly. Many, methodology or findings from this project or related field are generated
and documented into the text format report. This can be used as reference for the future
for upcoming projects which may be related to this project. In order to evaluate the
project, there are several methodologies that we the researchers used to approach the
project. The development of the application follows a standard framework of
methodologies; then we planned to use the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for
this project (see figure 3.1). The figure above was chosen, because a System
Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is composed of a number of clearly defined and different
work phases which are used by system developers in planning, design, build, test and
deliver information systems. SDLC aims to produce high quality systems that meet the
user or customer expectations.
In this project, a few processes have been considered to be used for the
development of the First Aid Mobile Application, in order to make this project a
comprehensive and efficiently implemented. First, we conducted an internet research
and found 10 literatures that are related to our final year project. To keep this project
updated and fresh, we select the literature that was written from 2017 up until now.
Second, there was a letter of intent prepared by the researchers that had been given to
the chairman of Philippine Red Cross Misamis Oriental Chapter to request an interview
regarding the other needed information for the system (See Appendix A). The
researcher’s also prepared four (4) survey questions that served as the guide to
determine the problem as well as the requirements needed (See appendix B). Due to the
pandemic, the way of answering the survey questions for the respondents was
conducted through google forms. Thus, the data that had been gathered from
respondents was used to analyze the requirements needed to improve the development
of the application.
The design phase of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) involves a particular
and systematic approach in defining the system. Assessments regarding how the
application will function and operate the components, interfaces and databases for the
application were made.
This is where the process of designing the application takes place. It is important
to make right Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagram such as use case diagram.
In this period, the design of Graphical User Interface (GUI) of this application also
needs to be done. Design is very important stage that can decide what is the
outcome of the project.
Database Design Phase:
Once the requirements and analysis are done. The researchers would
conceptualize the design, features and system functionalities of the developed
system, the development of First Aid Mobile Application.
The system’s design would be develop based on the researcher and user
desired needs for how it should function. The researcher’s would use diagram at this
phase to have a clear description of what the system would do, such as Unified
Modeling Language (UML) diagram namely, use case diagram.
Figure 3.2 shows the use case diagram of the First Aid Mobile Application, this
components plays an important role in the system’s development. First, user needs
to download and install the said application. Second user must also login and input
details, and can finally search the specific first aid that needed, after searching the
user can finally learn and apply the specific first aid that needed. Lastly, the
administrator will be the one who will update and maintain the application in the
Google Play Store.
The use case diagram would be used to visualize the system’s step-by-step
procedure and it will show how information flows between the system, administrator,
and its users.
High-Fidelity design will be showing the actual design together with the features
and functionalities of each user from the developed systems.
The development of the system, First Aid Application integrated the three-tier
architecture (See Figure 3.3). The researchers will use different frameworks for mobile
development application. A three-tier architecture design includes a presentation tier, an
application tier, and a database tier that were used for each user and administrator.
The researchers would use Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style
Sheet (CSS), and Jscript to implement the graphical and responsive user interface
design for the developed application. For the Application layer, the researchers would
use JQuery scripting language for the implementation of the functionalities that would be
utilized in the developed system to be able to store all the data accurate and correct.
Lastly, for the database layer, the researchers would use MySQL for saving and
retrieving the data.
Figure 3.3 Three-tier Architectural Design
Throughout this phase, the researchers would test and assess the application’s
functionality to identify faults and problems, as well as if the functions and programs are
functioning as planned. To evaluate the general operation of the developed system, the
researchers would do unit and integration testing utilization white box testing approach
(See Appendix C) to ensure that all functions and programs run as intended.
Through this process the researchers would undertake usability testing to assess the
suggested system’s effectiveness and responsiveness. Researchers will chose
numerous users from Cagayan De Oro City to do usability testing on the developed
application. Following that, the researchers would create a guidelines questionnaire (See
Appendix D) based on the application’s functionality, as well as the usability scale
questionnaire (See Appendix E) to assess the developed application’s usability. The
researchers would be able to evaluate the overall performance and usefulness of the
developed application using the data gathered from the tests that would be undertaken.
After the five phases of the agile model in system development life cycle, the
researchers come up with the deployment phase. In this phase, the researchers would
be going to deploy the developed application by the general public particularly in
Cagayan De Oro City after all the adjustments and problems handled. The Deployment
phase would be carried out by the researchers by inviting a large number of people to
use the developed application as participants. The researchers would deliver information
and instructions about the application to the participants, and it would be directed by the
researchers. First is to ask people to install or download the application via google play
store. After accessing the application, the participants will be asking to use the
application.

White Box Testing is software testing technique in which internal structure, design
and coding of software are tested to verify flow of input-output and to improve design and
usability. In white box testing, code is visible to testers so it is also called Clear box
testing or Code-based testing. On the other hand, White box testing in software
engineering is based on the inner workings of an application and revolves around
internal testing. The term “WhiteBox” was used because of the see-through box concept,
and the WhiteBox name symbolizes the ability to see through the software’s outer shell
or “box” into its inner workings.
