STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

ROTAVAPOR
Description

Some chemical procedures require a quick and effective separation of


substances through evaporation. The Rotary Evaporator is a tool which puts
the separable substance under vacuum and heats evenly through a spinning
motion, causing one component to evaporate and leaving the first component
behind.

1. Turn on the chiller power switch (Green button) start button located
in front of the chiller.
2. The chiller is normally set to -10 °C. If you need to change this
temperature for some reason, use up or down button.
3. Load your sample into the cleaned round bottom flask.
4. Attach the RB flask to the condenser.
5. Inspect the collection flask located below the condenser. Make sure the
flask is clean before use.
6. Fill the water bath with DI water. For heating, temperature can be set by
using up or down button located on water bath.
7. To lower the entire setup, press the power button on the rota-vapor
control panel. Use the handle to raise or lower the setup.
8. Turn on the Interference and for vaccum set up please refer settings (I
100) (To set the vaccum pressure for the different solvents refer the page
pasted on the wall)
9. Turn off the rotary evaporator the water bath (switch on the right hand
side). Make sure the temperature dial is set to zero. Turn off the chiller
using the power switch located in the front of the chiller. Turn off the
vacuum pump.
10. Remove the collection flask from the condenser setup. Remove your
product from the collection flask and clean the flask.Replace the collection
flask and the round bottom flask for the next user.
