Research Flow
Research Respondents

The grade 11 and 12 senior high school - maritime students of the University of Cebu –

Lapu-Lapu Campus on the academic year 2020-2021 served as the respondents in this study.

The selection of the number of respondents will be done through Slovin’s formula. The sample

size based on the calculation comprises of maritime students. Also, respondents will be

randomly selected from every third student that entered the gate of the campus, which led to

the generation of the conclusion of this study.

Research Environment

This study was conducted in the University of Cebu – Lapu – Lapu, Cebu City. This school

is known as one of the leading senior high maritime schools in the Cebu. The campus provides

training and certification to seafarers with their latest facilities and equipment.

Furthermore, based on the observation, cooperative learning is commonly used by the

instructors in the University of Cebu – Senior High School Maritime Education, since teamwork

and cooperation are widely practiced to relate the students to their seafaring career. Thus the

researcher would like to determine the students’ perception on the effects of cooperative

learning for them to be able to propose recommendation that would improve the learning

strategies used for the students.

DIRECTIONS: Make your Research Instrument and Gathering Procedure. Make sure to include all the
elements of Research Instrument to provide complete information about the methodology of your
study.

Proposed Title: The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning among TVL Maritime Students

Instrument of the Study:

This study used a modified standardized questionnaire adapted from “Students

Behaviors towards Group Environments (SAGE)” by Center for the Study of Learning and

Performance by Lysenko, et al., (2018). This questionnaire is divided into two parts with 32

statements on a 5-point Likert scale with “5” as “Strongly Agree” to “1” as “Strongly Disagree”

on part one, and with “1” as “Strongly Agree” to “5” as “Strong Disagree” on part two. The first

part will consist of the 16 positive statements of students towards cooperative learning while

the second part consists of 16 negative statements towards cooperative learning. The students

would then put a check mark on their desired answer.

The questionnaire will assess the students’ behavior towards cooperative learning. This

would determine how the students feel, behave, and think when working with other students

to learn.
Gathering Procedure:

Gathering of Data A letter of permission to conduct will be made and submitted to the

Campus Director, and a letter of request was sent to the Registrar of UCLM for the use of data

regarding the population of the students. The study was conducted and questionnaires was

distributed after the approval. Every third student that entered the gate campus was selected

as a respondent and was given an information about the nature of the research. A permission

will be requested from the respondents whether they are willing to participate in the study.

Upon agreeing to the request each participant was given a questionnaire to be answered, if a

respondents is busy and might not able to answer the questionnaires, the respondents may

request a specific time and place on when to pass the questionnaire. The respondent’s answers

was then gathered and interpreted.

Data Treatment The researchers used the following statistical treatment to be able to

obtain accurate data and results which were essential in forming conclusions and

recommendations.

Frequency Distribution will use for tabular representation of the gathered data for

analyzing and summarizing of the results and also in finding the positive and negative behavior

of students towards cooperative learning. .

Weighted mean will be used to determine the overall behavior that students have

towards cooperative learning

Rating Scale Interpretation

4.21 – 5.00 (SA) This means that cooperative learning is extremely helpful to the students.

3.41 – 4.20 (A) This signifies that cooperative learning is very helpful to the students.

2.61 – 3.40 (U) This shows that students are neutral towards the positive and negative

statements of cooperative learning

1.81 – 2.60 (D) This implies that cooperative learning is little helpful to the students.

1.0 – 1.80 (SD) This tells that cooperative learning is not helpful at all to students.
