KAMIAS AND ELECTROLYTES

Averrhoa Bilimbi or kamias in Filipino terms is an acidic fruit which grows on trees that can be
found in the Philippines. It is an elongated, evergreen fruit which appears to be in great
quantities on trees. According to Sheldon (2011) Kamias is also used as fruit as a treatment for
fevers, inflammation, rectal bleeding, boils and other conditions. Kamias can be used in a
variety of ways, it can be in cooking, medicine-related and even in energies. Thus, in relation to
this to our study, this is the main component of our self-made energy. Kamias extract contains
electrolytes that help in creating energy. Electrolyte exists in sodium, acid and in saline solution.
As the electrolytes dissolved in a solvent, it will release electrons. Thus, this produces electrical
current as the anode reacts with electrons. Kamias is considered as an acidic fruit that exists in
most parts of the Philippines. But this fruit is more than just an acidic fruit but it can play a major
role in producing clean and environmentally friendly energy. With its extract that produces up
acid (electrolyte) that can be used in making of electricity. According to Bose (2010) Nowadays,
electricity has become the form of energy with the highest demand. As these fruits can be found
somewhere in our neighborhood, we can produce our own energy as we experience black outs
occasionally.

Electrolytes, present in most of the acidic fruits. It is a substance that contains negatively and
positively charged particles called ions that helps in producing electricity. According to Imamah
(2013) the electrical effects are caused by variations in electrode material contained in citrus
fruit waste. The production of electrolytes may vary in accordance with the variation of fruits. It
may not be constant as the growth factor may have affected its acidity levels. In evaluating
electrolyte production of acidic fruits, the electrolyte levels may not be constant in using the
same fruit subject.

Oranges and kamias are fruits with citric acid properties, making them soury. With this property,
they can actually produce electrical energy. According to Sucipto (2007) that even banana and
orange peels can be used as a direct source of electric current. Banana peeling has a slight
acidic properties making them a good fit for potential sources of energy. Both banana and
orange peelings have acidic properties especially in orange. They contain an electrolyte that
serves as a guide for the electricity to flow. According to Jauharah (2013), fruits and vegetables
can potentially produce renewable energy and make them into a form of bio-batteries as a proxy
to store-bought, conventional batteries as these fruits and vegetables possess a great number
of electrolytes.

According to Bales, Donalito L. Jr.(1995) The possibility of using spoiled kamias fruit as an
alternative source of energy was investigated in this study. Its goal was to create dry cell
contraptions that used kamias fruit as the electrolyte and could generate a significant amount of
potential difference.Kamias had the highest potential of about 0.8 V among the fruits that were
pretested (papaya, latundan, saba, indian mango, and kamias). Factors that may affect potential
difference, such as the presence of water, acid and base, and the rate of the fruit's spoilage,
were tested on kamias. The voltage produced by pure kamias and those produced by kamias
combined with water, a basic or acidic solution, had no significant difference, according to the
test results.

According to Balleza, Ronz, Iah, Mes (2011) The possibility of using a combination of spoiled
Kamias, Banana, and Pineapple (KaBaPine) fruits as an alternative source of power was
investigated in this study. Its goal was to create dry cell contraction using KaBaPine fruits as the
electrolyte and generate a significant amount of potential difference. The fruit mixture was tested
beforehand and yielded a potential difference of about 0.80 Volts. On the KaBaPine
combination, factors such as acid and base, as well as the rate at which the fruit spoils, were
tested. The voltages produced by pure KaBaPine and those produced by KaBaPine combined
with basic or acidic solutions did not differ significantly, according to the test results. The
contraptions were made out of old size C dry cell zinc containers. As the new electrolyte,
KaBaPine was placed inside. The copper wire was soldered to the cap's base and used to seal
the cell in place of the carbon rod found in most dry cells. The KaBaPine cells were improvised
and were able to generate enough voltage to compete with commercially available ones when
connected in series. According to Bales, Donalito L. Jr.(1995) The possibility of using spoiled

Nicolas Josh David Electricity is one of a person's most basic needs in life. Daily appliances
such as electric fans for ventilation and light bulbs for illumination are powered by electricity.
Despite the fact that electricity is abundant in metropolitan areas, few people in rural areas
experience scarcity, a lack of light at night, or a lack of a reliable source of energy. Because of
this, children are unable to study effectively at night. People have to put up with this problem
because civilization is too far away to grasp
