TMDI Lesson Plan in Mathematics 6

I. Objectives
A. Learning Competency: Divide decimals up to 4 decimals places by 0.1, 0.01, and
0.001.(M6NH-1h-116.5)
B. Content: Divide decimals up to 4 decimals places by 0.1, 0.01, and 0.001.
C. Skill: Dividing
D. Context: Dividing decimals up to 4 decimal places by 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001.
II. Learning Resources: flashcards, Instructional materials, power point.
III. Procedures:

Learning Episode 1 :

A. Motivation: Evident # 1.
1. Presentation:
 Today our topic is to divide decimals up to 4 decimal places by 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001.
2. Importance:
 It is important because we use decimals every day while dealing with money, weight,
length etc. Decimal numbers are used in situations where more precision is required
than the whole numbers can provide.
3. Formative Assessment:
 At the end of this topic each one of you can divide decimals up to 4 decimals places
by 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001.

B. Prove and Respond:

1. Review /Drill: Evident # 2

Note to the teacher: Teacher uses flashcards for the drill.

Drill:
Direction: Give the product of the following.
1. 2 x 10 = 120
2. 20 x 10 = 200
3. 32 x 10 = 320
4. 55 x 10 = 550
5. 200 x 10 = 2000

Learning Episode 2:

A. Modelling: Evident # 3,4

I Do: Today I’m going to read a math problem. Listen carefully and make sure to
understand the problem.

Sab and Andrea went to Luksuhin Market to buy 5.75 kilos of ground meat. When they
came home, they divided the whole meat into one-tenths and put it in plastic bags for future
use. How many bags of meat were there?
Motivational questions:
 Where did Sab and Andrea go?
 What are they going to buy?
 What did they do with the whole meat?

Since today we are going to divide decimals up to 4 decimal places by 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 we
need first to remember the rules in dividing decimals with decimals.
Note to teacher: Teacher will further discuss each rule.
Rule #1: Make the divisor a whole number.
Ex. 2.8956 ÷ 0.1= N
Ans. 2.8956 ÷ 1 = N
Rule #2: Do the same to the dividend what you did to the divisor.
Ex. 2.8956 ÷ 0.1= N
Ans: 28.956 ÷ 1 = N
Rule #3: Proceed to dividing them like whole numbers.
Ex. 2.8956 ÷ 0.1= N
Ans: 28.956 ÷ 1 = 28.956

Dividing decimals by 0.1

 in dividing decimals by 0.1 just move the decimals point in the dividend
one place to the right.

Note to teacher: Teacher provides more examples.

Dividing decimals by 0.01
 in dividing decimals by 0.01 just move the decimals point in the dividend
two places to the right.

More examples:

Dividing decimals by 0.001

 in dividing decimals by 0.001 just move the decimal point three places to
the right.

More Examples:
We Do: Evident #5,9
Class I have here other examples and we are going to divide the following.
1. 96.78 ÷ 0.1 = N
2. 7.342 ÷ 0.01 = N
3. 92.05 ÷ 0.001 = N

You Do: Evident # 6

Class I want you to divide the following.
1. 6.205 ÷ 0.1 = N
2. 8.117 ÷ 0.01 = N
3. 96.78 ÷ 0.001= N

Learning Episode 3: Evident # 7,8
