CHAPTER I:

THE PROBLEM

AND ITS

BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION

As communities across the country experience a spike in reported cases of covid-19

many kids have been affected by the temporary closure of schools owing to quarantines. One of

the students that affected in this closure of schools is the TVL Home Economics students. The

TVL Home Economics students are really need to take face to face classes because they have a

goal to improve their skills by the teaching of the teacher in face to face. Because of this

pandemic, the teachers are doing their best to focus on the TVL-HE students and they also

recommends watching cooking shows.

Cooking shows have progressed from being mostly educational to also being

entertaining. Currently, instructional cooking programs emphasize the transfer of cooking

knowledge and abilities, whereas edutainment cooking shows prioritize entertainment. Chefs

entertain us with their culinary expertise on their shows, much as actors entertain us by playing

diverse parts. Cooking programs also teach us how to cook properly, eat healthily, and how to

cook a specific item in a variety of ways so that we don't get tired of eating the same dish cooked

in different ways.

The TVL Home Economics students are the students who studies about Food and

Beverages Services, Bread and Pastry Production, Cookery and etc. They have a task or goal to

improve their skills specially in cooking while they are in their senior high school year. Their

subject Cookery aims to teach and improve their skills in cooking, it also recommends watching

cooking shows while they are in online class.

When the covid-19 starts, many students are affected by the closure of schools specially

the TVL-HE. The purpose of this study is to know the impact of cooking shows to the

development of cooking skills. This study also aims to know if the cooking show really gives

them knowledge about proper way of cooking. This study was conducted to know if they learn

many dishes by watching cooking shows. This study is also conducted to give some

recommendations on choosing a good cooking shows and understandable cooking shows.

Lastly, this research was conducted to give or provide knowledge to the future researchers

regarding to the impact of watching cooking shows to the development of cooking skills.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study has a topic “The Impact of Watching Cooking Shows to the Development of

Cooking Skills of the Grade 11 and 12 TVL-HE Students at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel”

aims to follow the following problems:

1. What is the demographic profile or the respondents

 Name

 Gender

 Grade

2. Do you think that watching cooking shows can help you improve your cooking skills?

3. Do you learn any kind of dishes because of watching cooking shows?

4. By watching cooking shows, do you learn the proper ways of cooking?

5. By watching cooking shows, do you learn the proper way of using the other kitchen tools

and utensils?

6. Do you think that watching cooking shows has an impact to your cooking skills?
Scope and Delimitation

The general intent of this study is to know what is the Impact of Watching Cooking

Shows to the Development of Cooking Skills of the Grade 11 and 12 TVL-HE Students at

Colegio de SanGabriel Arcangel.

This study will mainly identify and asses the different factors that affect the development

of cooking skill of the TVL-HE Students. Also, this study yearn to identify on how can the

researchers develop and assist the TVL-HE students in terms of knowledge about food nutrition

and safety, planning and budgeting and food preparation/cooking.

The Grade 11 and 12 TVL-HE students of Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel will be the

respondents of the study. There will be 70 respondents in total. A validated survey will serve as

the main instrument of the study to gather data.


Significance of the Study

This study aims to determine the impact of watching cooking shows on TVL-HE students

food-related skills, which will aid and benefit the following:

Students:

This will provide students a thorough understanding of food issues and will assist them

in honing their food-related talents. This will also develop their values that will enable them to

be more productive and responsible cooking students and practitioners in the future.

Parents:

This will give them a hint for a suitable parenting style so that they may assist their

children in strengthening their food-related skills and instilling values such as food nutrition and

safety, planning and budgeting and food preparation/cooking.

Teachers:

This will allow them to learn more about the students food knowledge and skills. As a

result, they are also able to conceive methods to increase their learners food education as well as

their food-related abilities.

Administrators of educational institutions:

The information acquired by the researchers will be used to develop possible treatments

and programs to raise food knowledge on school and develop ethical and productive students.

Future Researchers:

This will be useful as a reference for their research.
