Learn the history of Microscopes
Janssen Microscope
Was created by Zacharias Janssen and his father Hans
Janssen, both of whom worked as eyeglass makers. It was
made in the 1590s, according to historians, and it was the first
compound microscope made.
Single-Lens-Hand-Held Microscope
Van Leeuwenhoek invented the single lens apparatus in the late
1600s. Van had been the first to discover bacterias using this
microscope, which had likely led to further discoveries. He
examined many cells, protozoa, and was later on acknowledged
as father of microbiology.
Achromatic Microscope
In 1826-1830, Joseph Jackson Lister
discovered that using lenses at different
distances provided clear magnification and
better resolution, as well as eliminating
certain chromatic and spherical aberrations.
UV Microscope
August Köhler invented it in 1994. Because it uses UV light, this
microscope is more magnified and has higher resolution than
other microscopes. This type of microscope employs a dichroic
mirror, which reflects light onto the specimen as it strikes it,
resulting in higher resolution.
