Introduction:
The present essay is to give a summary of the movie "A beautiful mind", as well as
to give psychological support on the diagnostic analysis of Nash, the film's
protagonist, focused on the different behaviors he had in each scene, taking into
account account the characteristics of your personality and reach conclusions that
allow a better diagnosis.
Likewise, mention and describe scenes where their maladaptive behaviors stand
out, concluding with Nash's diagnosis regarding their problem, supported by the
DSM-IV.
The DSM-IV is an instrument made from empirical data and with a descriptive
methodology, with the aim of improving communication between clinicians of different
orientations, and between clinicians in general and researchers.

“A BEAUTIFUL MIND”
Nash, a brilliant and paranoid mathematician who received a Nobel Prize.
His life begins when he enters Princeton University as a student, where some
aspects of his personality stand out, both in terms of his interpersonal relationships
and his strange curiosity about everyday matters that, for other students, seem of
attractiveness; for example, Nash spent hours observing the groups of pigeons that
pecked in the courtyards of the University, probably detecting patterns in their
social behavior.
A rather lonely young man, closed in on himself and his best friend was numbers,
he believes that everything in life can be solved with mathematics, and he strives
to verify everything done with numbers, analyzes and seeks answers through of
formulas in the movement of pigeons, of a football game, etc.
Nash, being all the time testing formulas and theories, did not have much time to
make friends and in general his friends from Princeton were passing friends, who
did not share much with him, and when he suffers from schizophrenia he creates a
roommate who helps him with his problems and shares with him, who becomes a
great support for Nash in his difficult moments.
Nash despite his illness when he realizes and becomes aware does everything
possible to try to please his wife and that she not suffer more for him, to the point
that for his wife and son he chooses to ignore his hallucinations despite that they
are with him, the rest of his life.
Not having much contact with people, he was really a failure with women during
almost his entire stay as a student at Princeton, every time he tried to approach a
woman he messed up, since as well as in mathematics that were exact he was
exact and to the point, he offered to the women with whom he was trying to have
something, to go to bed and have an exchange of fluids, to put it in a more vulgar
way Nash did not know how to group women and was too direct for his things,
which provokes rejection from women, at least until before marriage.
All the characters invented by Nash's mind give him everything that he did not
have, Charles gives him a true friendship, Marcy gives him all the love and
tenderness of a young girl of the opposite sex, which makes him have an
affectionate female relationship, which was what he always failed at, Parker gave
him all the excitement that Nash's dull life didn't have, making him work for him.
Department of Defense scrambling enemy codes, which had something to do with
what he liked, math.
Nash had prestige as a teacher, he falls in love and marries one of his students,
Alicia, who has been captivated by his brilliant personality, his wife's attitude.

Alicia, a splendid teaching in her way of treating Nash, as a person, as her

husband, as the intellectual, as the patient. She fell in love with Nash from the first
day she sees him, and as shown in the scene where they meet for the first time,
Alicia shows Nash that not everything is fixed or solved by being so square in the
face of problems, they were in a classroom with the other students and since it is
very hot and there is too much noise outside the room and outside for repairs,
Alicia asks the workers to stop for about 45 minutes and continue doing something
else for the meantime, and he manages to keep the living room window open,
when Nash had previously closed it and everyone was practically dying of heat.
Alicia is a woman with her firm ideas and determined in the face of what she wants,
and despite Nash's bad attitude towards her at first, she persists until she ends up
seducing Nash and marries him.
One of the most outstanding scenes is, where Nash has an argument with his wife
while she picks up the phone and calls Dr. Rosen, while Nash's hallucination that it
was Parker told him to stop his wife, and Nash tries to defend her. of pushing
Parker and pushes his wife, at the moment that she runs away from her house and
gets into the car, Nash is presented with Marcy holding her hand.
Later, upon learning of her husband's illness, she assumes the role of a woman
affected by the illness as any woman would, but with hopes and very
understanding, although sometimes she exploded explosively, thinking that this
tragic moment she was living was not going to end. never end and would destroy
her marriage, but she gets over it and goes ahead with her husband, with a very
optimistic mind, after Nash, facing an argument with his wife, becomes aware of
his real illness when he realizes that the (imaginary) niece of his also imaginary
best friend never grew up despite the years that had already passed since he had
seen her for the first time as a student and now that he was a teacher.
Charles was Nash's friend created as an effect of the disease he suffered from, he
was always a support for John, he was Nash's roommate, who tried to get him out
of the routine he had and with that make John have a more normal life, Charles
made them go out to talk and have a drink, play pool, etc. It was always the normal
part of Nash's Mind, since he was the typical college teenager who had his drink
and enjoyed life which Nash did not because of his intense dedication to finding
mathematical solutions for everything. When Nash had a problem or difficulty,
Charles always appeared as if by magic with some words of encouragement that
got Nash out of the problem, Charles always had the right word to say, although he
still had one or another
fight with Nash, but it was always resolved in a short period of time. The only time
that Charles shows up and can't say anything to help Nash, is when Nash is
captured to put him in the psychiatric hospital, and John thinks seeing him in Dr.
Rosen's office that his friend was a traitor, although primarily he apologizes for
putting him in that problem since Nash thought that Dr. Rosen was Russian, and

then seeing that Charles is not captive and is just sitting looking at him, Nash
accuses him of being a traitor, while Charles cries helplessly, since he doesn't I
couldn't do anything because it was just a hallucination of John.
Charles, in Nash's mind, has a niece Marcy, a little girl, who was also an important
part in the relationship aspect with Nash, if Charles offered Nash a friendship of a
great friend who helps him face the problems in which John was, Marcy gave Nash
love and affection, she loved to hug him, talk to him, take him by the hand, etc.,
everything that Nash really did not have with real people, referring to a more
contact friendship physical that can be seen in a friendship of the opposite sex.
When he begins to have memories it is with the effect of Marcy, he remembers his
past where everyone has aged over time, but his best friend, Marcy and Parker
were still just as young, and he realizes that Marcy never grows over the years,
and Nash he runs after his wife and tells her that Marcy never grew up.
With medical attention, which in his case was shock treatment, the strength of his
intellect and an iron will conquered the disease and returned to receive the Nobel
Prize. But, as shown in the film, it is the help of his wife, with her patience and
heroic dedication, that brought about his recovery.

Conclusion:
The movie "A Beautiful Mind" reflects the different senses in the development of
real life. But sometimes life can transcend reality, which is to lean towards fantasy.
It is at that moment when the uncertainty between fiction and reality arises.
