1. PURPOSE
To establish and maintain a documented procedure for reducing the potential for
product contamination from pest activity and from the use of materials and/or
procedures designed to control pest activity.
2. SCOPE
This covers the entire plant facility including production, storage area, godowns
and open spaces within the premises.

4.2.1 A Service contract has been awarded to a licensed pest control operators for
pest and Rodent Control and a copy of the licence is retained in the file. The
Service contract defines the scope of operations and the services including
materials to be used, methods, precautions, and chemical safety data information
sought from the pest control operator. The pesticide / rodenticides &
equipments / devices for the application are brought by Pest Control Agency
every time they come to the premises to undertake pest control activity. This
forms a part of the contract. Pesticides / equipments / devices are not being
stored in factory premises.

4.2.3 Samples of labels and Material safety data sheet for each pesticide being used
are maintained and are readily available for reference in the event of anybody
affected by it. Antidotes for each pesticide are also made available with first aid
box at Main Security Gate.
4.3.1 First step to institute pest control, a Pest Control Layout of the plant
(WI/HRD/03/01) has been prepared, indicating the production and storage areas,
entry points for employees, material and products, exit points for dispatching the
products, scrap yards and waste holding / handling areas, sanitary
conveniences, corridors as well as the open spaces of the plant within the
premises. The layout also indicates the type of pesticides and pest control
devices such as spray, fumigation, baits and traps. The pest control layout is
updated as and when any change occurs. All rodent traps / glue traps, flying
insect catchers have been numbered and suitably identified on the layout.
4.3.4. Tamper resistant bait box using approved rodenticides, with lids locked have
been firmly anchored along the exterior perimeter. Mechanical traps / glue traps

have been placed along the interior walls, at each side of all
entrances to the production area, raw material storage area
and finished good storage area for controlling rodents. No feeding stations inside
the plant have been employed for rodent control activity. The traps are inspected
and cleaned once in a week or earlier, if needed, and the findings recorded on
the Rodent Control Log Sheet (PPS) (F/HRD/03/05). The exterior premises of the
plant are inspected once in a month for presence of rodent burrows and any
other conditions that attract rodents. As and when any such condition is identified
the burrow is immediately filled up.
4.3.5. Additionally a Rodent Control History card is being maintained for each of the
Rodent control devices, and the same is updated with findings at each service
and cleaning carried out.
4.3.6. Electric flying traps have been placed at strategic points so that insects are not
attracted from outside the building. They have been installed in a manner such
that they are placed at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from the exposed product
on a production or packaging line. All these flying insectocutors units are cleaned
on a weekly basis during peak insect season from June to September while
during other months it is cleaned on a monthly frequency. The light tubes in the
electric flying traps are changed on an annual basis and records of this
maintained. Location of electric traps is as per Plan (WI/HRD/03/02). All traps
are cleaned as per schedule & recorded on Insect Light trap Monitoring &
Cleaning Service Log sheet (EFK) (F/HRD/03/03).
4.3.7. A treatment for management of pests such as houseflies, flies & grates is carried
out as per the Pest Control Layout (WI/HRD/03/01) and Pest Control Schedule
(F/HRD/03/01). The same is recorded in a fly control log sheet (IFM)
(F/HRD/03/06).
