1. PURPOSE & SCOPE


The procedure describes the steps to ensure that pests are in control levels in the food
services operations. Glucorp has Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system, which serves
as PRP.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES
Pest management is the core responsibility of management, and handled by Administration
department through third party pest controller agency.
Monitoring of pest management lies under the domain of Administration department
whereas Food Safety Team is responsible for the verifying the implementation of
procedure.

3. PROCEDURE

3.1 PEST CONTROL SERVICE PROVIDER


Glucorp assigns the pest management to a reputed third party having qualifications
mentioned below:
a. License / registration from a recognized national or international pest control
agency.
b. Sufficient practical experience in the field working with food industries.
c. Trained pest control personnel / operators.
d. Application of approved and safe chemicals in pest control activities with
recommended dose.
e. Training of Glucorp staff about IPM and awareness about targets species is essential.
f. Execution of pest control activities as per “ADMN-4-006, Integrated Pest
Management Plan” and record to be maintained.
g. When & where required, Glucorp is advised on hygiene and housekeeping practices
by the pest control service provider to control pest.
h. Monthly evaluation of the practices and overall performance of the service will be
provided to the Manager Administration.
i. Placement of all type of traps and insect-o-cutors will be maintained by the Pest
controller as per “Annexure – 1, Traps, Insect-o-cutor and Fire Extinguisher Layout”.

3.2 BUILDING DESIGN & GOOD MAINTENANCE PRACTICES


3.2.1 Adequately screening of open windows, vents, fans & similar features to prevent pest
(Insect, birds, rodents, reptile) entry.
3.2.2 Use of double doors at major entering/exit points.
3.2.3 Use of Insectocutor for flying insects and its maintenance.
3.2.4 Where required, air and plastic curtain are placed to restrict the flying insects’ entrance.

3.2.5 Eliminate cracks & openings in food storage & handling areas by proper construction or
repair.
3.2.6 Make all food handling machines & storage areas accessible to cleaning according to
cleaning & sanitation program.
3.2.7 Properly constructing all walls, ceiling, windows, doors, floors, & overheads &
maintaining them in good condition (e.g. no crack, holes, and missing parts) so that they
do not harbor pest or microbial growth.
3.2.8 Food handling & storage areas are rodent & birds proof, as mice can enter openings less
than ¼ inch , & rats can enter openings less than ½ inch in diameter.
3.2.9 Remove waste food or garbage to proper storage or disposal sites on daily basis.
3.2.10 Keep grass short, shrubs neatly trimmed. Maintain proper drainage to reduce or
eliminates shelter area for pests.
3.2.11 Other necessary instructions to reduce or eliminates pests & rodents are followed
according to company policy & approved services provider:
a. A site plan/map identifying areas where bait has been laid should be present.
b. Inspection reports, which demonstrate the treatment frequency to check and replace
baits remove dead rodent bodies where appropriate, should be maintained.
c. Checking of all deliveries before they enter the food service operation and refuse the
shipments that have signs of pest infestation shall be logged.
d. Reports of any interference or removal of baits should be logged.

3.3 Gap Survey:


3.3.1 A Gap survey would be conducted on monthly basis by admin and pest control service
provider.
a. Findings will be raised during survey and recorded with pictorial evidence.
b. Findings would be shared with departments who are responsible for closing the
highlighted gaps.
c. Pursue the responsible departments for closing of gaps.
d. All the mentioned gaps would be verified in subsequent survey.
e. All the pending gaps would be carried forward in the next gaps report and share
with concern departments.

3.4 HOUSE KEEPING:


3.4.1 If any food is spilled, it is cleaned immediately.
3.4.2 No food item is brought on the production premises and scraps of food are not left on
the floor, shelves, lockers and food scraps are not allowed to enter drains to attract
pests.

3.4.3 Ensure the area around the premises is clear of scrap, garbage or other places where
pests can nest, hide and breed.

Note:
A comprehensive Procedure for Personal Hygiene & Housekeeping (ADMN/2/002) is in place to
enhance the effectiveness of IPM.

3.5 USE AND STORAGE OF PESTICIDES


3.5.1 Keep pesticides in their original containers.
3.5.2 Store pesticides in locked cabinets away from food-storage and food-preparation areas.
3.5.3 Store aerosol or pressurized spray cans in a cool place. Exposure to temperatures higher
than 48 C could cause them to explode.
3.5.4 Check local regulations before disposing of pesticides. Many are considered hazardous
waste.
3.5.5 Dispose of empty containers according to manufacturers’ directions and local
regulations.
3.5.6 Keep a copy of the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) at the premises.

3.6 Recording of Pest Related non-compliances


All incidents of product damage or presence of pest related issue either on production floor
or in-intermediate products are recorded on CPA form.
