1. What is Tourism?

- Tourism is a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon that entails the movement of people to
countries or places outside their usual environment for personal or business/professional
purposes. These people are called visitors (which may be either tourists or excursionists;
residents or non-residents) and tourism has to do with their activities, some of which imply
tourism expenditure (United Nations World Tourism Organization, 2008).
2. What is the difference between travel and tourism?
- The main difference between Travel and Tourism is that Travel is the movement of a person for a
long journey, whereas Tourism is traveling to recreational places for amusement. Travel refers to
the journey of a person.

4. Why is tourism popular?
- people have more leisure time. Many countries have invested money in facilities and
infrastructure that make it easier for tourists, such as roads, airports and hotels. Ageing
populations – people are able to travel in the free time that they have when they retire.
5. What is the difference between tourism and hospitality management?
- Hospitality management is a field that focuses on all aspects of hospitality operations including
hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, amusement parks, country clubs, and convention centers while
tourism management focuses on tourism development, management of the travel industry,
tourism marketing, and tourism services.
