BLDC Motor

• A Brushless DC Electric Motor (BLDC) is an electric

motor powered by a direct current voltage supply
and commutated electronically instead of by
brushes.
• It uses an electronic controller to switch DC
currents to the motor windings producing
magnetic fields which effectively rotate in space
and which the permanent magnet rotor follows.
• The controller adjusts the phase and amplitude of
the DC current pulses to control the speed and
torque of the motor.
• Brushless DC motors (BLDC) feature high efficiency
and excellent controllability.
Difference Between BLDC and DC Motor

• A DC motor uses carbon brushes for this purpose but

they wear quickly.
• BLDC motors use sensors – usually Hall sensors – to
measure the position of the rotor and a circuit board
that functions as a switch.
